Call McCullough, Watmore score at Satuaro night MX By Nancy Keyes TIJCSON, AZ, SEPT. 6 A beautiful evening with a few light sprinkles made racing quite pleasant at Saguaro _Racew~y's MX as our 1980 evenmg racmg season draws shorter with few races left before we go to days. Sono~a, Mexico was well represented with several riders present. The 125cc Expert race was one of the most exciting with Tibbs McCullough pulling the holeshot the first moto, going on to win with a huge lead. Eddie Wearden from EI Paso finished second and Roger McCluskey was third. The second moto saw Buddy Thomison pull the holeshot with David King and Todd Phillips pressing close ~ehind. King overtook T~o mison on the first lap and Phllhps went down doming out of the valley. Meanwhile, McCullough, who had gotten buried in the back at the start, was working his way through the pack gaining quickly with each. lap.. Tho· mison and Wearden colhded 10 the wan berm giving McCullough the chance to pick up some extra seconds and finish second behind King. Mc Cullough took the overall with Mc Cluskey second and Wearden third. Pat Eggman finished both motos in the 125cc Junior class with a huge lead, Joseph Petruska taking second and Ray Wimmer third. The 250cc Expert race was a real crowd pleaser. Ron Watmore pulled the holeshot for the first moto with Carlos Serrano and David King close behind. At the end of lap one, Wat· more was still leading, but Serrano al· most got him as he took a spectacular fall over the jumps by the tower. At the end of the second lap, King went down on the s!'me jump leaving Watmore first, Brett Hanna second and Rick Watmore third. Serrano worked his way back to second and Mike Garratt finished third. The second moto, King was first out of the hole and rode it straight to the fLOish with Ron Watmore second and Wearden third. The overall went to Watmore with King second and Garratt third.
