off Keese, who had moved ahead of
Cunis before Holley entered the
battle, and then Holley began to
charge after Hanaen in third. Up
front, Snoneland was holding on to his
lead beautifully, but on the ninth lap,
Brown got by for the lead, and roosted
off to the win from there. Hansen
slipped by Snoneland on the next lap,
and Snoneland had to finish in third
for the moto. Back in founh, Holley
was holding strong until the 10th lap,
and in the last two circuits, Kippy
Pierce took his LOP Yamaha into
fourth before they crossed the
checkers.
Moto two was an all-Holley show.
Holley grabbed the holeshot, and took
off from there, never to be touched.
Brown and Hansen got off the line 2-3,
but on the second lap Brown dropped
oUt for good, and Hansen rolled into
second. All he had to do was finish
right there, not let Snoneland get into
first, and he had the overall in the
bag. That's exactly what he did,
followed Holley the entire way for
second in the moto, and the overall
victory. Snoneland was having his own
problems back behind the leading
duo, however. After getting off in
third, Pierce was right behind, and
took over the third slot on the second
lap. Snorteland could not get out of
fourth the rest of the moto, and
fmished right behind Pierce, both in
the moto and in the overalls, 3·4.
Holley's 5-1 brought him second in the
overalls, while Bill Hagen racked up a
7·5 tally for fifth.
Yamah's "Eanhquake Erik" Kehoe
again made shambles of the 125cc Pro
class. In the first moto, Kehoe took the
holeshot, and led every lap. Luft's
Mark Moscrop got into second off the
line, and rode as hard as he could but
he could mount no serious threats. Jim
Keese and John Whelchel started off 34, but Whelchel went down on the
second lap and dropped to dead last.
Keese rode in third until the halfway
mark, while Whelchel began a serious
charge from the rear of the pack.
Whelchel slipped past Paul Cano and
Matt Whiting on the sixth lap to move
into sixth, and from there, the fierce
last-half moto action began. With
Kehoe out front, Moscrop held on to a
distant second until the eighth lap, but
then went down hard, and dropped
almost a full lap behind. Two laps
later, he headed for the pits. During
that time, Whelchel had dispatched
Roy Gomez, Gary Reichenbach, and
finally Keese. and with Moscrop out,
he found himself in second. Keese
went on to take third, but Gomez
picked off Reichenbach for fourth,
and Cano took fifth when the checkers
cameoul.
Round two was another Kehoe runrunaway, as he led the entire 12 laps
from stan to fmish once more, and
grabbed the overall. Whelchel got off
in second right from the stan, but
despite his good early running
position, he failed to get out in front of
Kehoe. Second was all he could score
by moto's end, but it was still good for
second overall. Moscrop rolled into
third on the first lap, and this moto he
kept ahold of that spot for all 12 laps,
but was way back in ninth overall. Jim
Simons racked up a fourth to go along
with his first moto 10th while behind
him Paul Cano and Gary Reichenbach
fought for third overall. Cano got the
advantage
with
his
fifth
to
Reichenbach's sixth, and in the overalls Cano scored third just ahead of
Reichenbach. Roy Gomez grabbed
fifth overall with his second moto
eighth, as Keese dropped to ninth in
the moto, sixth in the o~al1s.
S8ddlebeck was hit by. typhoon as Marty Tripes won at SSM.
