The largest class of the day was the 250cc Intermediates and Mike Rose prevailed over the gathering in each race. Robert "Robot" Rodgers had little trouble taking second overall once Mike Blake retired in the final moto after a runner-up finish to Rose in the first . Rodgers had a 3·2 showing while third overall, Women's National Champion Dede Cates collected a 4-5 in the 17-rider field. John Lusignan trailed Don Hoover in the first 500cc Intermediate moto when the checkered appeared, but he went on to win the second with no opposition fonn Hoover, who spilled and finished seventh for fourth overall. Drew Porto went back home after the day's contest with the runnerup share after his pair of thirds. Fonner southern Calfiornian Rich Boiteau who now hails from Oakland, won the breakage-plagued 125cc Intermediates with two wins. A third of the entire class failed to show up for the first or second rounds because of broken mounts. And, only three were left running after the first moto checkers came out. Richa: followed by Simons, Pan and GUIlmette. As for Moscrop, he pulled off of the track on the second lap and headed for the pits with a bike too bent to compete on. In the meantime, Arnold was well on his way to sweeping the moto, as Brad Williams ran a distant, but comfortabl e second. Simons roosted past Johnson , who was riding noticably slower than usual , apparently suffering from the pile-up as well. Behind Johnson was Pan. who held a good margin over Guilmette. When the checkers came out, the positions held firm with Arnold the winner, Williams second and Simons third. In the overalls it was Simons, Arnold , Johnson , Williams and Pan. Next on the list were the 2505. Ed Arnet got off into the lead early in the first rnoto and went on to win it ahead of Rob Tolleson, Rick Hulsizer and Brian Chereshkoff, and his second moto holeshot was a saver as well. Behind him, Chereshkoff took over second via another rider tangle, which left Hulsizer and Tolleson in the back . of the pack. Arnet roosted off into the lead and won it easily, while Chereshkoff ran in for second and the same overall. Boo Richardson brought his Suzuki into third. but because of his first moto fifth could only manage a fifth overall as well. Hulsizer and Tolleson battled for the remainder of the moto for fourth , the rider taking the position earning third overall and some money for his night'S riding. It was Hulsizer who came out in front of Tolleson when the checkers fell, and it earned him the th ird overall he was battling so hard for. In Open action, the only rider to luck out at was Andy Jannings. In the first moto, Jannings took his 450 M-l out in front in the first part of the race, and stretched his lead all the way to the checkers. Kirk Sturgeon and Ed Arnet battled for second and third for the entire moto, after escaping a pile up in the esses that took out Allen Hopper, Steve Richard and Steve Kelso. When the checkers came out, the order of finish was Jannings , Sturgeon, Arnet, Bill Edrington and Richard. Moto two saw Jannings stuff his Maico into the first tum in third, then by whipping the big machine into the inside , came out in front. Arnet followed, with Sturgeon right on his heels. In the first two laps, the leading trio stayed neck and neck, until Arnet tried to pass Jannings on the outside of a berm, and went out of control. Sturgeon tried to slip underneath, and Arnet suddenly shot across in front of him , nailing Sturgeon's Yamaha square on . The YZ's pipe was flattened at its widest pan, and as Arnet rode off into second, Sturgeon had to fight to stay up in third. At the mote's end, Jannings had a huge lead over Arnet for the win and overall, with Sturgeon coming in third and the same overall. Results OPEN PRO: 1. ArCv J8nninga _ 1; 2. Ed Arnot (Yaml 3. Actually, Phil was not the only rider on the line -up who was new to this class. Ammex racer Gary Sewell left the Intermediate pack as well. Both of these riders handled it naturally and it was good to have a couple of new riders in this class because it is usually too small. Todd Peterson was out and he led the entire first mota. Dave Behlings passed Riddle on the lOth lap and trailing those two were Andy Guth and Sewell. In the final mota BehIings kept his competitors behind him till the fifth lap. Then he went down and this gave Peterson the break he needed to win. Guth advanced and took control over Riddle. Overall it was Peterson, Guth, Riddle and Behlings. Now in other contests the riders who won had it just like Todd Peterson did. In the 250 Novice class Paul Bassett took his Yamaha to a clean sweep victory . Paul won each mota but received quite a hassle from the others: In the first mota Bill Olson led till the eighth lap then Bassett gained the lead. Pat Nash has been out of the racing action for a long time but he is back into it now. Pat did not do too hot in the first moto but made up for that poor score by taking second in the final moto. Pat led for a couple of laps until Bassett made his move to the first place spot and Nash settled in second. Overall it was : Bassett, Vincent Phillippi, Gary Hunt, Gary Clark and Nash. Gary Gonzales is one of the more consistent riders in the 500cc Intermediate race. It seems like he is out here every week and he keeps on coming out because he is winmng so much. He rides a Maico so maybe that is pan of the reason. Gary won his class overall ahead of Robert Leroy Casper and Dave Pilarski. 2 Results MINI5lHIO BEG:1. Kevins.mtord (Yom); 2 . . ;on.lAmxl; 3.
