Kal-Gard/Thousand Oaks Yamaha sponsored Kyle Lewis took the lead as action in the 61 cc Modified class go t underway. Buddy Dumo pressured Lewis from the first tu m, and Lewis finally fell victim to traffic, allowing Dumo by for the rnoto win . Dumo gated first in the second moto with Lewis pushing in each tum . This time when they came up on slower riders . Dumo went high and Lewis went low to come out on top . He held it. to the checkered flag for th e overall wm . "Z"winnerinProStock! E ~ r:: Soft-spoken Sid's the kind ofguy who usually lets the ladies go first. Except when the lady is KZ1000-mounted Vicki Farr; Sid's runoffcompetition at the IDBA W Finals. In an earlier orld run, she had soundly defeated Terry Vance. And now, it was Sid' tum. But instead of minding hi manners, Sidgunned his Zl-R. When the smoke cleared, it was Pogue first- for the win and the 1980 Pro Stock No. 1 plate. Of course, Sid's victory doesn't mean that men are any better than women. CA ,JUNE 18 Terry Belcher went two for two in the 250cc Intermediates over Mark Seymour and Bob Caul field in Speedway 117'5 1980 Coke Series, Wha t's that you say? Dan Wa tson mu st ha ve stayed home? No way. Watson crashed twice in th e first moto and on ce agai n very hard in th e second mot o for a com p lete wipe-out . T his is not to take an yth ing away from Belch er a nd company t hough . as he ran very smooth and fast in both rnotos and ha'd plenty of co mpetition from Seymour. Caulfield , Baugh . and Bald win for the win. It was the first Intermediate win for the seco nd generat ion ra cer , whose dad Bob was a top com pe ti tor back in the jalopy days a t Ba lboa Sta dium and lat er the Super Modifieds at both Ba lboa a nd Cajon . An IS ·rider field in th e 125's saw Town and Country Kawasaki rider David Crowson go two for two ove r teammate Rodolfo Sevilla with thes e two guy s running away with it in th e late la ps. The ra ce for thi rd was th e wild one as Scott Allen edged point leader Mike Kin cheloe for the show spo t. And last but no t least. th e Min i Juniors staged a real . " ba rn burner" with Mitch Pal mer squeaking out th e win over point lea d er Kevin Nolan an d second plan' point rider La nce Barnell.
