Well , no one knows yet. Due to sickness, Alan "Crazy" Christian Mike Bast . with his bike finally in top running order, was ready to win . In the Scratch Main , it was Bast, "Bad" Brad Oxley, Lance King and Steve Columbo. When the starting gate went up . it was Bast and Oxley together into turn one. Brad not giving an inch to the hard riding pro. Bast tried to use the power of his bike to escape from Oxley on the straightaway, but Brad's bike took everything he could give . like a jockey giving his horse the whip. Keeping up with Bast in a straightaway is something very few riders have ever done and Brad was doing a grand job. In turn two . the bikes seemed to lock for an instant with neither rider giving in. Coming out of the turn , Bast was on the inside while Oxley was outside though not by much. The bikes were maybe three inches apart . They flew down the back stra igh t· away and then on the second lap it happened again. With Bast inside of Oxley, bikes did lock this time and ' Brad spun out allowing Lance King and Steve Columbo to move inside. but Oxley quickly recovered. By turn four . he was clearly in second place. However. Bast had not slacked off and now had a lead of about six lengths which he was able to hold on to till the finish . Oxley finished a more than honorable second, third was King. fourth was Columbo. In the Handicap Consolation. young Joe Donaldson gave the crowd a real thrill. He was first into turn one and for the first two laps was five or more bike lengths in front. However, working his way through traffic was Craig Schaefer. On lap three . he went inside Donaldson and took the lea d , causing Joe to lose control. John Sa nd ona moved quickly into second followed by Lance King. Schaefer won the event by about five bike lengths. The Handicap Main event had a surprise start for a First Division race. In turn one a crash took four riders down and rookie (a lmost) Keith Chrisco did a double flip interfered with only by the crash wall . He . with everyone else: though . made the restart . Jeff Ca rm ello took the lead on the restart and the battle was for second between Sterling Cogar and Tom Bu rba . Tom was in a firm second by lap three and that's. how they finished . Carm ello got his first win ever in First Division . Third was Cogar. fourth Chrisco . In Second Division racing. Jim La wson was ou t front and stayed there whi le second place Derek Gage got it only on the last turn as he snuck under Tom H ughes leaving Tom wondering from whence he came. In the Third Division Main. the winner was Victor Robledo after two restarts. Second was Ed Castro. third Eddie Cla rk and fourth was Margo King. . ' ~ t o 00 0') ~ Results SCRATCH MAIN : 1.
