Larry Chvaral held onto second place until th e second la p when Hoover muscled past. Ch vatal looked good and held onto third . The nod for second overall went to Hoover . Kevin Wagoner and T om Kuhl kepi the crowd entertained with their dice for th e win in the first moto of the 250cc Seniors. Despite being pressured for the entire moro, Wagoner held on to win it . Following in third was Hoover with fourth going to Wessels after getting past Brian Budke on the last lap. Kuhl led the whole way in the second moto to win the overall. In fact . there was no passing going on as Hoover rolled in second with W agon er in third a nd Dick DeWester in fourth. Craig Robl , Mitch Rora ba ugh and Tom Hickey led the start of the l25cc Seniors. O n the beginning of - the second la p , Rorabaugh closed on Robl and dived undern eath for the lead momentarily. Robl got it right back going over the jumps on the following straight a nd that was the closest anyone could g-et to him all day as he rolled on to the easy win Rorabaugh took a n easy second over Rick Peters who moved up to third after a fifth pla ce start . MAY 4 Due to.insurance and lease problems, the third race of the Coors Midwest Motocross Ch ampionship was held at Jennings rather 40 than at Norton as originally scheduled. A good turnout indicated that the news ha d been received by the racers and a long day of raci ng ensued . First off the line were the l25cc Juniors who were picked as the guinea pigs to dry out the well-wa tered track. Kun Ross was mid-pack going into the first turn and took it wide to exit in second ahead of nine others. However , on the next straight, which was particu la rly slick, he and another Suzuki rider bumped an d went down hard. The rest of the pack managed to miss them and Ross rem ounted slowly to begin a charge tha t eventually landed him a seventh-place finish . Taking adv antage of th e situation was Kaw asa ki rider Russ Pickering who gra bbed the lea d a nd held it to the end. Jim Buch ner held second after ' the first lap before steadily dropping back to fifth after being picked off by Russell Woodson, Brian Lu ed ke and Clayton Ba ney. Luedke managed a second-place finish despite falling three times . Baney . claimed third ahead of W oodson a nd Buchner. Ross, still shaken after his first -more crash, sat out the second moto . Luedke got an early lead with Pickering applying a great deal of pressure by th e second la p . Their dice continued until Pickering tried to cut underneath Luedke , got his fron t wheel snagged and went over the high side. Luedke took the white flag and then the checkered for the overall win . Pickering remounted quickly to hold onto second and second overall. Woodson took third and th ird overall ahead of Ban ey. Bret Weaver led both motes of the 250cc Juniors fro m start to finish on his Uni -Trak. Ro bert Vogt maintained a second-place position throughout t he first moto with Cunis Eveleigh taking third after moving up fr om a poor stan. The leaders freight-rrained their way around the course the second moto without changing positions. Weaver won it over Eveleigh and Vogt. T he top three riders in the Open Juniors were Mark Ba nt am , Jerry Claso n a nd A.J. W arta , all on Yamahas . T hey finished in the above order in the first m oto and then switc hed it around in the second so that the overall was W a rt a , Clason and Ba nt am . , There was very little passing going on in the Open Senior class. In the first rnot o, Jesse Wessels led the who le way on his new 440cc Maico. Following him was local favorite Dave Emerick and Phillipsburg rider Dan Hoover. Robl led the second moto all th e way and won- it easily. In second was Tom Hickey with Rora baugh moving up to hound him . Rorabaugh was right behind him trying in vain to get around until the end of the fourth lap. Then Hickey slip ped slightly wide on a first -gear turn and Rorabaugh went inside of him , pulled alongside and wrestled past in the next left -bander. Rora baugh went on to take second place and second overall easily behind Robl. Hickey held onto th ird over Randy Bryant. The 100s were won by Bert Weaver with a last -lap pass in th e second moto for the lead over first -mote winner Russ Pickering. Pickering took second overall with a 1-2 over Dwain Worley with a 4·3 tally. Finishing 1,2 ,3 , in both motos of th e Mini Juniors wer e Jonathan Pancake, Roddy Dill and Jim Voss. Jason Jumper claimed fourth overall . Marsha Ginther got th e start in each Powder Puff m oto and led them to the end with Micki Peterson a close second over Deb Jones.
