outhern Nevada·Southern Calliornla· Arlzona·Southern Neva': lose the transfer place to a ju billant Steve Karsten. Our other top lady racer. Dorothy Rowe, didn't make it out of the heats but her Harley is back and running again, The main no doubt caused more white hairs for Danny Perkins' fans and supporters. The first laps had a run down of Steve Oort really comfortably out front, then a gang of Steve Polson, Jeff Allison and Perkins. The three went at it hot and heavy with Perkins finally breaking loose. Perkins, who did in the Expens by winning the combined main last week, started nibbling away at Oort's lead until he was up alongside. With no more time left, Oort slid out a bit exiting turn four, and Danny, who had been going alternately high and low waiting for his chance, streaked by to win, with the stands in an uproar. Chris Cannon, who had turned the fastest heat race time for a Novice this ~ason (2:05.54), had one hell of a go with Mike Hale in the Novice division. Roxy Rockwood considered the main the best Novice race in two years as Hale and Cannon fought it out - we agree. Meatl Bennett kept third over Bob Garrison inspite of nearly getting. off in the south turn, but out front it was a Cannon and Hale battle royale; first one then the other in front. On the very last lap Hale took the outside line and Cannon the inside line through turn four with Hale making it to the flag fmt. Results NOV MAIN: 1. Mike Hole (Vom): 2. Chris Connon (Vom): 3. Lee was crowd· ed back into the pack as well and took sixth. The rider who stood out this time was Ross Maeda. Ross held the lead confidently over Gregg Waldrup and Doug Dubach. On the overall 125 Pro payoff list for the nigh.t it was: Maeda, Lee and Turner. I can remember years ago when Tim Shelton was just a Mini rider at Ascot. Ever since he has been progressing rapidly and tonight he won the 125cc Intermediate class. Tim whipped the seven man class and took two wins. Steve Postlewaite averaged two seconds and did his best to pass Shelton. In the second mota Steve came very close to doing just this. He was hauling when he approached the corner before the TT jump and then he swapped himself right off of his machine. Fortunately he picked his bike up and saved his position. Overall it was: Shelton, Postlewaite and Sean Gilboy. Stu Peters of CMC told everyone that at this point there is no official word as to when CMC motocross racing will resume at the Orange Show Fairgrounds. They are preparing an all new track so hopefully they will open sometime this summer. apcllcncc ~SPRII Paru... backed b'I asolidwallantq o 00 0') ....... see your motorcycle de8ier for Esprit guaranteed replacement parts... built to orIgnal equipment specs and ayanable for mostrnotOi'CjCle makes and n'iodeIs. .... l-< 0.. < Results MINI JR: 1. Agajanian's Ascot Park Wednesday night. This marked the 11 th season of racing which makes it the longest established event in the history of CMC racing. Radical Ron Turner was out to get them again and came close to taking a clean sweep of all three Pro classes. As it was he got all of the glory in the 250 and' 500cc Pro classes, but couldn't . take I)ome the 125 loot because of an upsetting final moto. . An experienced, yet new to 'the line· up Pro named Troy Lee really buffaloed everyone this evening, racing a new KTM 125. When the 125cc Pros took offfor the first time, Lee got the hole· shot and tried to hold the fastest pace but because of one little slip at the back of the track drop·off jump, Ron Turner smoothed on by. Ron took the first wave of the finish flag with Lee taking second over Ross Maeda, Dave Hamada and Rick Atkins. Everything went crazy in the second moto and the top leaders in the first race now turned into mid-pack people. Tarantino's win might well have been a grand slam if not for a first moto crash that cost him a place in the last half of the race. He had pulled out to a strong lead on the first lap while Griewe had to get through a little traffic. Griewe made an attempt to reel in the leader in the early laps, but it simply wasn't enough until Tarantino looped it on a long uphill section. Griewe took the lead while Tarantino struggled to get his machine going before third place John Greenway (Hon) could catch up. At the finish it was Griewe with a great lead over Tarantino, Greenway, Bryan Jordon (Yam) and Leif Kaldor (Yam). In round two Tarantino again jumped into an early lead, but this time there was no Griewe to pressure him. The Maico's transmission had jumped out of gear and refused to go back.
