Griewe, Blount top Corona MX By Ron Lawson CORONA, CA, MAR. 28 Cycle World rider Don Griewe and his 250cc Maico were in top form once agajn at Corona Raceway for the weekly Friday night MX. At the start of the first 250cc Pro moto, however, it was Greg Zitterkopf, also Maico-mounted, on top. But Griewe was hot in second place and on the fourth lap the lead changed hands. From there on in the two Maicos held on to the top two spots while the action switched to the banle for third. Eric MacCracken had come off the line poorly, but quickly blitzed through the pack to take the position from Tim May of Riverside Suzuki. Curtis Rough (Kaw) also managed to sneak. past May for fourth. In round two Griewe was even more impressive. He took the holeshot and did nothing but pull away in the following laps. Scott Paschal (Yam) held on to the number two spot in the early half of the race, but MacCracken soon displaced him. At the fmish line it was Griewe, MacCracken, Zinerkopf and Rough, setting the overall positions identically. The 125cc Pros had Brent Blount (Yam) do a double number, taking the win with two mota victories. He was on top of every lap of moto one while Dave Rose (Suz) diced with Rick Jackson (Yam) and Todd Elmer (Yam) for second palee. Eventually Jackson dropped out of the race and Elmer got by Rose, setting the finishing order at Blount, Elmer, Rose, Dave Coyle (Suz) and Dave Crawford (Suz). Rose was the man on top of the mota two start with Blount tucked in close behind. Blount took over in a few laps and took it home while Rose held on to second over Elmer, Crawford and Clint Songer (Yam). The sportsman side of the fence saw a close 250cc Novice class taken by John Mazzacane (Kaw). In the first moto, Mazzacane was in third on lap one following Kevin McLaughlin (Yam) and Scon Denny. He managed to get by McLaughlin, as did Chris Farrow (Yam), but Denny held out for the win. In the next round Mazzacane came back for the win ami. the overall victory, with McLaughlin following. The fmal results read Mazzacane, Denny, who nailed a third in round two, McLaughlin and Farrow. The 125cc Novice race was also.a good one. Jack Scon (Yam) took round one but ran into trouble in the second moto, finishing only fifth. It was Larry Daniel (Yam) who took that mota after passing Kit Palmer (Suz) in the last half. Overall it read Daniel, Palmer and Scott. Results MINI BEG: 1. Glenn Clerk (Yaml; 2. Kirby Clark (SUlI; 3. Mike Wawrzyniak IYoml. MINI NOV: ,. Chris Sparks (Yaml; 2. Dan Hammock ISUlI; 3.
