North Texas motocross enthusiasts were treated to some fine
racing from mini to mighty.
Mosier, a track usually domi-
-'
34
nated by Dallas·Ft. Wonh riders, was
in fine shape, fairly fast with no dust.
The morning program began with
the Mini Juniors "moving dirt" first.
David Barnhill dominated the action
with Scott Chandler taking second
place honors.
Tim Long led the way in the Mini
Senior action with Jeff Barker in his
roost for most of the morning. Butch
Wesson and David Chandler rounded
out the top four in the Mini Senior
class with Flynn Coon and Shane
McMahon following in order.
"Old Man," T.C. Carter led the
Over 30 Juniors on his self sponsored,
self tuned Yamaha. T.C. was followed
by "Go Home" Gorman who was
"Iookin' good" with consistent rides in
bothmotos.
Over 50 Intermediate action was
inteme, with Gary "lead foot"
Chandler coming back after a first
moto battle with Tom Hollister to take
the overall honors. Bob "Superman"
Pope wound up third with Sonny
Triutt, Mike Pegues and Elmer
Morgan following in the overall
column.
Roger Schellenberger showed the
small field of l00cc Novices who's
boss. Chris Parker came back for
second with James "Red Baron" Stoner
third.
Dub McAda led Division One of the
125cc Novices when the moto finishes
were tallied. McAda came from a poor
start in round two to finish second
behind Chris Hance. Hance was
second overall with Pat DansbY' third.
Division Two was a Robby Wilson
benefit as Wilson, aboard an '80
model RM, blitzed the field for the
overall win. Craig Sullaksen was
second with Ricky Prailey making it
into the top three.
Jacyce McMahon led the 250cc
Novices to the checkers after some
tight racing with Tommy Wieboech.
The two young racers were handlebar
to handlebar with Tom Johnson
following in third and Vern Jablonsky
a consistent founh.
Open Novice action was dominated
by Greg Butler who was flawless all
morning long. keeping his blue bike in
front from gate to flag. Joseph George
was second with Glover Smith
rounding out the top three.
The last race of the morning
program was the new Beginner class.
Joe McNeely proved quickest with wins
in both motos. Kent Sperling was also
consistent and quick, ending up
second overall.
The 125cc Intermediate class was
first to pound the starting gate .with
"Lil" Jeff Pendergraft's Suzuki moving
through the pack to win with a perfect
score. Todd Smith and Lloyd Olson
followed the speedster in the overall
column.
125cc Expert action was next with
Randy Sullivan dominating both
motos with his fluid form. Randy
Kirschbaum, from Kansas, came from
behind to finish second ahead of Kirk
Dillon and Terry Maddalazo.
Nathan Nash put together a pair of
consistent rides to take the 250cc
Intermediate c1asss. Jeff Kring was
second after a tough second moto
battle.
"Okie" Trey Jorski took home the
bucks in the 250cc Expert class. After
a race long battle with early leaders
Robbie Pannell and Nick "The Stick"
Cordova, Jorski received the nod in the
deciding moto. Cordova was second,
after a flat in the first moto and a close
encounter with Pannell in the second
moto. Randy Kirschbaum tried to steal
the show by winning the first moto but
he had trouble in the second round.
Pannell's consistent 4·4 finishes were
good for third, aceing out Kirschbaum
with a better showing in the second
moto.
Open Intermediate racing was
headed by Gary "The Nose" Mason
who came back after bike problems in
the first moto to win the second. David
Smith was second with Eddie Sames
third all day.
The day's racing was topped off
with tbe exciting Open Experts.
"Okie," John Day won out in a three
way tie with Monte Anderson and Kirk
Spencer by winning the second moto.
Day beld off Anderson in round two
with .the power of his kitted Yamaha
proving too much for the talented
Anderson; a first tum encoutner
claimed half the other riders and
slowed the starn of both Anderson and
Spencer.
