Well Griewe was concentratmg on his racing so much that he rode right past the pumpkin patch and didn't get scored. He went 'about 50 yards and then looked back and saw everyone else frantically tearing apart the plants with little bits and pieces flying everywhere. Griewe turned around to join in the massacre and wasted several minutes trying to , find a suitable piece. In the meantime, Breker, not to be outdone by anyone, grabbed a whole pumpkin and took the lead. But the huge thing was so unmanageable that soon Phil Thorstensen, Griewe's partner, retook the lead. A lap later, however, Griewe got a flat tire and dropped out of the race and Breker was back on top where he stayed. The final event of the day was a boot race. This is a one lap race with a pair of Scott boots going to the winner in each engine size class. When the green flag dropped the riders h~d to run from their bikes to an area where all their left boots had been stashed, put the boot on and then run back to sJart their bikes. The Experts were handicapped by having to run farther to get their boots. The first person to crash in the race was Breker who endoed while trying to figure out how to run with one bare foot. Miller cheated by putting on a tennis shoe and then kicking it off when he gOt to his boot. At any rate both Breker and Miller went home with a free pair of Scott boots for the Open and 250cc classes. Juan Benavidez also got a pair as did '. ..... ... j". ,I I • J .... They both raced all day wearing fur all over their bodies, which can be rough. Kinsey wore a lion head over his helmet while Reynolds was a cocker spaniel and both costumes were first rate. ITALJET MM5B By Ron Lawson SUNNYMEAD, CA, OCT. 28 Only two weeks ago, Keith Williamson gave up his 125cc Suzuki for a full sized 250cc. At first he wasn't quite sure how he would do on the bigger mount, but Sunday at DeAnza his fears vanished as he took bo~h motos in a small but competitive Pro class on his new Yamaha. He grabbed the first moto holeshot with Mark Reha (Mai) right on his tail and then the two of them started dicing with Chris Tarvin (Han) and Keith Dysert (Hus) going for it right behind. Dysert began to drop back about the halfway point with a flat rear tire, leaving Tarvin to go after Reha. At the end, the top three were equally spaced with Williamson still holding the edge over Reba and Tarvin. In the next round, Willliamson was again on top when they came around Thr MMSI ''lulbino" is • junior motorcydr just lib the bia one. SinBIe speed. 47.6 cc ensine. T....ins w'-h oplio.....
