bested Terry Kizer, but Terry's points-leading
laydown-framed Kawasaki will be wearing No.1
in 1980.
In the Sportsman classes, Kawasaki stormers ,
blew the side covers offall the competition: Ultra
Stock winner and 1980 No.1 goes to Hamp
Osburn. Modified Eliminator event winner was
Roger Monroe; Mike Puglia's points lead earned
him the 1980 No. I plate. And in Street Eliminator,
Mike Phillips got the win light; Jim Dodich got
the 1980 IDBA No.1 plate.
In the aftermath of Kawasaki's prevailing
wins, some manufacturers might declare Gulf~.illn"':::~ port, Mississippi,a disaster area. Indeed, there
were several reports oflooting which were later
confirmed: Kawasaki's 1979 IDBA bonus and
contingency program was picked clean - all
.$40,000 worth.
