Hlrenport Campeny Toll Free HIOG-547-2553 Inside Oregon 620-0330 Mike Horker led the 125cc class at Mabton before he took soil samples. holeshot. but two and a quarter miles later, Jim Dunn's TZ750 led at the start/fmish. Michak dogged him, closely pursued by Puhakka's Yamaha. Going into lap four the trio was tight c:oming onto the straight, where Puhalli powered past Michak. Michak got by his rival in the twisty backstretch on the next lap, but Puhakka again gunned past him on the front straight. Dunn must have felt the pressure. He didn't quite make turn three after the downhill, and had to take the handy escape route on lap five. Perhaps his brakes went away, for this recurred on lap seven. Meanwhile, Puhakka grabbed the lead, yielded briefly to Michak on the backstretch, only to zoom ahead again on the straight. Michak's brakes couldn't quite take the heat and Puhakka pressed on to victoty by a thousand feet. Michak plans to continue his fourstroke crusade in 1980. And we invite you a.ll to take your vacation in the Northwest next year, road racing on fine tracks in Seattle, Portland or Vancouver. Maybe you could show us how it's done in California. B~I Nobel Ostrlem smokes 125cc Pro class atMabton By The Squisher MABTON, WA, SEPT. 16 Showdown Promotions put on another outstanding race today with the star attractions being a $750 purse- for the 12!iicc Pro class and 40 minute motos. The large purse attracted 26 of the top riders from Washington 'and Idaho. AndyTudor (Hon) took an early lead in the first moto followed by Jeff Anderson (Suz) , Dennis Ostriem (Suz), Art Key (Suz) and Rod Casper (Suz). Tudor stretched out a huge lead as Anderson dropped out with bike problems and Ostriem took over second. A lot of bikes were dropping out with flats, thrown chains and water related problems. With money being paid down to eighth place by moto only, it really paid to ride consistently. Thirty minutes into the race, Ostrieum took the lead for good. Tudor held on for second despite a strong charge by Rod Casper and Gary Quest (Yam) at the end. The second mota was a lot easier for Ostriem as he grabbed the holeshot and never looked back. Less than half of the riders fmiShed the race. Gary Quest rode well for second place money with Ross Learn (Suz) third on a .borrowed bike. Duane Morris (Yam) had little trouble creaming the 125cc Intermediate class, as usual, with "Jetting" Jack McGill (Yam) second and Jon Jacobson (Suz) ~hird. Rick Gage (Hon) led the first 250cc Pro moto followed by Leon McDonald (Yam), Duane Morris (Suz), and Bob Buffaloe (Suz). Andy Tudor (Yam) quickly moved up through the pack to challenge Marker for second after McDonald fell. Andy, trying to pass . through the deepest part of the mud hole, proved that Yamahas aren't submarines when he drowned out. Gage went on to an easy victory with Marker second and McDonald close behind. The second moto looked like another easy victory for Gage but a DNF gave the win and overall to Marker. Leon took second with Dale Holcomb (Suz) third. • RIDE Results . PEE WEE: 1. Bily Moya (SuzI; 2. Dine Jelferv 1Suz); 3. Jill Modenllall. JR. CYCLE B & UNDER: 1.
