Ogden's bad luck was still with him, however, and he bailed off on the back pan of the track. On lap seven, Brown got by Blose and staned to roost away. But just a few laps later, Brown ran into some slower riders, B10lIc re·took thc lead and was never challenged again. With Brown and Jim Holley in second and third, another battle was on for founh. this time with Denton pursuing Simons. A few laps later, Denton was by Simons and the top five were !Ct. Overall, the order was Blose, Simons and Denton. In the first 250cc moto. it looked liJr.e Tony Wankel (Yam) was going to 'wallt away from the race. There was a good dice for second betwcen Robert Reisinger (Kaw), Lenny Giger (Kaw) and Mark Lawrence (Yam), with Donnie Hansen (C·A) in fifth. On lap six, Lawrence moved up to second, passing Giger and Reisinger. Giger also got by Reisinger. but Hansen stormed up and passed them both. By this time, Wankel had a nine· second lead over Lawrence and the hard-charging Hansen. Then around Webco Tum, Lawrence went wide and Hansen used thc inside line to take over second. With Hansen on the move. Wanket saw his lead dwindle from nine seconds to a bilr.elength. Then all of a sudden, going around a turn, Wanket stalled his motor, Hansen got by and motored away, leaving Wankel to finish second. Giger was pressuring Lawrence for third, but got out of shape and crashed. On the next to last lap, Lawrence slowed and Reisinger took over third to the finish. I n the next moto, the finishing order was the same as far as the top two were concerned, but Lawrence finished ahead of Reisinger to take third overall. In the 500cc class, David Taylor pushed his LOP'prepared Yamaha to the overall win.
