By Laura Ric~ard VALENCIA, CA, SEPT. 23 It was a good day for racing and American Motocross Enterprises had a good turnout of racers to compete in their race at Indian Dunes. In th~ 125cc Pro rac~ w~ saw Canoga Park Suzuki's Bobby Ryan tak~ his first Pro win with Crossroads Suzuki rid~r Jim ~nd~lbach taking s«ond. As th~ gat~ drop~ for th~ start of the 250cc Pro rac~ it was Int~tional Yamaha·sponsor~ Mik~ Sh~mak~r taking th~ hol~shot follow~d by Yamaha support rid~r Tim Loc~y and Ski Maieo rid~r Rob Rollins. Sh~mak~r put up a strong fight but was unabl~ to hold off Loc~, and as th~ flag drop~ it was Loc~ taking first ah~ad of Sh~mak~r and Rollins. Round two was a repeat of th~ first round with Sh~ak~r taking th~ hol~hot and th~ I~ad follow~ by Loc~ and Rollins, and again Loc~ put the pass on Sh~mak~r. Th~ ov~rall for th~ day went to l.oc~ with Sh~maker taking ~cond and third going to Rollins. Round one of the Open Pros found Bakersfield Yamaha rid~r Darin Oliver in the lead with Simi Vall~ Cycle Maico-mounted Dave Haugh in second and International Yamaha's Steve Rawson in third. Haugh pushed Oliver through the ~ntire race but had to ~ttle for second. As th~ gate dropped for round two, Oliver again took the lead followed by Yamaha support rider Andy Janning and Rawson. But the hard-riding Haugh blasted his way through the pack to put the pressure on Oliver, and fmally took over the lead. The ov~rall win w~nt to Haugh with Oliver taking second and third going to Track and Travel Maico rider Steve Richard. U.S. Yamaha rid~r Eric Keh~, own~r of several minicycle titl~, put togeth~r back to back wins in th~ 125cc Int~rm~iate class with ~cond going to Suzuki-mount~ Jon Ortn~r and third going to Yamaha rider Todd Broussard. Lippie took th~ flag, shadow~ by Vaughn, as Law~ got around Dick to finish fourtIT ~hind Pratt. Th~ second time, Vaughn holohot, but wound up in a four bike pile-up in th~ first tum. Lippie took ov~r and held it to the wire. K~lIy Virchow controll~ ~cond with Lawo on his tail, while Tim Atkinson pick~ his lin~ to keep Pratt anI! Dick ~hind him. As the battl~ continu~d, Vaughn was back up moving through the pack, Atkinson went down in the last lap, and Dick finish~d fourth. Kyl~ Lewis went back to back to win the Junior Cycle Modified Int~~diat~. Shan~ Trittl~r k~pt the h~at on Lewis, as h~ waited to mak~ a move, but it nev~r came, as Lewis rod~ in control to the flag. Ricky Dumo led the troops th~ second tim~ out. Halfway through the moto, Lewis gain~d momentum and put th~ squeeze on Dumo, th~n made a pass in time for th~ flag. Josh Melching's 2· I ride gave him th~ victory in the Stock Pee W~. Chris P£at~nhau~r I~d th~ first moto with M~lching, Ronni~ ~nsford and Chris Demyen c1~ ~hind. With ~ach lap Pfat~nhau~r and M~lching pul1~ furth~r from th~ pack.
