CA, SEPT. 14 Craig Dale's domination of the 125cc Pro races at Corona Raceway had a brief interruption for two weeks when the Suzuki West 28 rider went to nonhern California for an AMA qualifier. But last Friday night he was back, and it was business as usual as he ran away with top money. He and his friend Troy Smith. also of Suzuki West shot out of the hole side by side at the start of moto one, but it wasn't long before Dale had established himself firmly in the lead. Rick Stout from Suzuki of Riverside came off the line poorly and had to work in the early laps to get into fourth behind Eddie Glover (Kaw). On the third lap, both Glover and Stout gained a spot when Smith dropped back. Then Stout gained another position by passing Glover. After that. the order was set for the rt"St of the race with Dale and his constantly growing lead on top, Stout in second and Glover and Keith Williamson (Suz) following. Round two saw Dale get one of the most incredible holeshots of the yt'ar. He piloted his totally stock RM OVt'r the Even Break reverse falling slart 10 a bout a six bike lengt h lead by the time he hit the first turn. Stout got another rollt'n start. as did Glon-r. and they spent the early laps trying 10 cut through the traffic. It was on lap six that SlOut moved into second. where he stayed for the rest of the race. But:;lover's luck wasn't quite so good and he had a high speed get·off on the same lap which put him out of the races for the rest of the night. At the end. it was onct" again Dale and Stout on top but Smith and Williamson switcht"d places to give Smith third place mont"y. Tht" 250cc Pro class wt"nt to Redlands Suzuki pilot Marty Mill('r, but only after a hard raCt· with Bill Chapin (Yam) and Greg Zill..rkopf (Mai). In round ont", Chapin was leading in the early laps. but Miller did manage 10 pass him at tht" halfway point. After that, Chapin's bik.. developed an air It"ak and h.. was unable 10 rechallt'ng.- Miller for th.. lead, although ht' cam(' \'ny c1os(·. The second moto saw Mill('r pass Zillerkopf, then Zim-rkopf pass Millrr and finally Miller pass Zillt"rkopf for the lead. Whilt' thOS<' two w.. rt" busy dicing back and forth Tt"d Hoyt (Yam) moved into third and Chapin took founh. That's how it r('maint'd for thc' overall standings. Tht" 125cc Int..rmeuiate class was tak..n again by Rpn Eide and ,his DG Suzuki. He took thc' first mol<> whilc' Quinton Smith (Suz) DNF. but in round two Smith c'ame bal'k for the motu win. Eide still 1o(ot the win whik Smith wound up with fifth overall bt-hind Rob Millrr (Suz). first 1imr Intermediate ale' Rauba (Suz) and fourth plan' Brian Mayrr (SUl). Results MINI8EG: 1.
