This left the two Amateurs, Bill Holmes, who rides his Husky for White Cloud Ranch of Malibu, and Senn playing switcharoo for second. Pfetzing, who fought the beat by pulling a rider no-no, (no leathers-no sboulder pads) was so far out front that he rode to the pits and got a fire extinguisher and returned to the finish line_ Here, he literally soaked Holmes and "Bullit" as they took second and third in that order. Kevin Case and Matt Urbanek were top Novice riders while Paul Fitzgibbon and Tracy Oil claimed overall Beginner honors The last two races, the Open and tbe 250cc, were dominated entirely by Competition Cycle's Craig Adams. This incredible young man rode both -races, back to back in extreme heat and literally ran away with both overall wins. In the Open race, Lou Duplessis had the lead for the first'lap but Craig took over on the second and became absolutely untouchable. Duplessis had his hands full trying to stay in from of Rusty Clarke and Jerry LoweJl. Clarke wem out and Lowell took second followed by Duplessis, Dan Miller and Paul Huffman. Stephen Vincurek, Terry Windusr and .Rodney Busse were first three Novices while Ed Cavanaugh, Andy Pollock and Dav~d Sherron were top Beginners_ The 250s found Adams out from on the first lap and that's where he stayed. Warren Barr, "Captain America," held a comfortable second umil he developed engine problems and then he was passed by Rick Ricsecor. Roland Wood and Steve Blakely, Top Amateurs were Albert Rodrequev and dave Wemz, who had been I<·d by Robin Busse until his flat tire moved him back to third. Top Novice riders were Jeff Coan, Charles Momilepre and Alan Smith, The Beginner leaders were Rob Hall and Kurt Turgasen. Lunde, Hansen split wins at San 8erdoo A11-Pro MX By Tom Corley SAN BERNARDINO, CA, AUG. 3 Some of the finest, fastest racers in the Southland gathered to· gether to put on one fantastic show of motocross racing at the Orange Show Fairgrounds. This was a special All-Pro night in which the promoter, American Raceways, put up a $2000 purse for both the 125 and 250cc Pros. There were three rounds or motos of racing for each class. In the first I25cc Pro moto, Tim Lunde got the holeshot and led the entire race. Randy Mcintyre jammed in second till he crashed and Bob Kline advanced to second and was right on Lunde's rear tire. John O'Mara held off a long list of riders to finish fourth. Announcer John Bethea told everyone before the second moto that Bob Kline needed a front wheel and could not race otberwise. Nobody came through so Kline was out. Lunde was on top though and got the jump again while O'Mara trailed in from of Mark Denning who soon lost a chain on a comer. Todd Peterson crashed once with Roger Hensley yet still took third. Jim Holley lost his foot peg and had to ride his side cases yet finished fourth. In the final molO it was quite a struggle for the lOp position. Lunde proved quickest at first but couldn't hold the others back. O'Mara executed a skillful pass on a small jump and took over. Then Holley passed Lunde on a corner so Tim took third. As it turned out, O'Mara was penalized for backing off the starting gate, which ruined his night. Lunde claimed first place cash with a fine 11-2 finish over Holley, Peterson. O'Mara and Kline. The 250cc Pro race was as big of a Freddie Spencer, riding the Kerker equipped Team Kawasaki, took back-to-back victories in the AMA Superbike races at Sears Point and Laguna Seca.
