Donnie Hansen took the 250cc laurels in San Bernardino's All-Pro night.
Craig Dale won at Corona for the third straight week.

Finally MacCracken made a pass that
looked that it would stick on the last
lap, but just before the nag came out
he tangled with a lapped rider. It only
cost him a couple of seconds but that
was all Glover needed to take the lead
and the overall win, Ladell Eide (Suz)
was third.
as the 125 class was. Gary
out ahead in the first moto
on his Ammex. By the time they got to
the first corner Jerry Raymer (Yam)
swooped around for the lead. Donnie
Hansen was giving Jon~ a bad time
and then worked his way on by for
second. Hansen was out to get Raymer
and did as he made the pass on a
comer. Then Jones got on the gas and
passed Raymer back and took over
second. Juan Benavidez battled Tim
Lunde for fourth and soon they broke
away and both of them passed
Raymer. After an exciting race, it
ended up with Hansen in first over
Jones, Benavidez, Lunde and Raymer.
Hansen got the holeshot in the
second ·moto on his Kolbe Can·Am
and went uncont~ted through the
whole race. Lunde was challenged by
Jones and those two remained that way
straight to the finish. Raymer fell once
at the finish comer, but this didn't put
him out of the race as he fired the bike
up and still took fourth ahead of
Benavidez.
It was announced in the third and
final moto that Lunde would not race
because he broke his rear wheel set-up.
Jerry Raymer shot out ahead in this
race, but Hansen changed his luck and
passed him immediately on a small
jump. Marty Miller was doing well till
his Suzuki derailed its chain. Raymer
led Jones and they diced it out till the
end.
Hansen's three molO wins gave him
a huge share of money from the large
purse. Jones captured second overall
over Raymer, Benavidez and Dale
McKinney.

Dale dazzles
CoronaMX

CORONA, CA, AUG. !l

A perfectly pre.pared and slightly
changed track highlighted last
week's R.A.C.E. MX at Corona
Raceway and once again the
turnout was large. The 125cc Pro race
turned out to be a benefit for LOP/
Suzuki West rider Craig Dale who
devastated both molOS easily. It's now
three weeks since anyone but Dale has
taken top money at Corona.
Moto one saw Dale jump into an
early lead and then smoothly pull
away from the other riders. Second
place belonged to Rick Rodgers (Kaw)
in the early laps while Fred Combs
(Suz), Troy Lee (Suz) and Keith
Williamson followed. Way back in the
rear of the pack was Rick Stout (Suz)
who had badly misjudged the reverse
falling start gate and was now paying
the price by having to work his way up
through the field. By la p three he was
in fifth place behind WiJliamson and
pushing. Lee was also doing some
pressuring of his own. trying to move
past Rodgers into second place. It was
on the same lap that both Lee and
Stout found a way to move up, and
moved into second and fourth
respectively. Stout didn't want to stop
there, however, and in the final laps
he made a fantastic charge to cut the
gap between himself and Rodgers
. down to nothing. The checkered nag
came out before Stout could make his
move and Rodgers took third behind
Lee and a distant Dale.
Rodgers took the early lead in round
two, but Dale was unstoppable and the
lead was his at the' end of lap one.
Stout also passed Rodgers one lap
later, but Dale had already opened up
a huge lead and Stout had to be
satisfied to remain in second. In the
last half of the race, Troy Smith (Suz)
started cOJIling on strong, moving into
third and closing on Stout. But once
again the checkers came out before a
real battle developed. Dale took the
overall with Stout taking home second
place money over Rodgers.
A much closer race was in the Open
Intermediate class where Eric
MacCracken (Hus) met Don Glover
(Yam). MacCracken took the first
moto with little difficulty while Glover
struggled with a mid-pack start, but in
round two it was Glover who got the
hol~hot and MacCracken who was
behind. Glover built a small lead, but
before the third lap MacCracken was
right on his tail. They diced for the
r~t of the race. MacCracken would
pass Glover then Glover would turn
around and pass MacCracken and it
went on like this for several laps.
