.._.•.•.•._.. ....................................................... anyone ('Is(' to win the Amateur class with 42 points. In the highly contested Novice and Beginner classes. most of the riders were dazzled by the length of section three which followed the side of a streambed strewn with cobblestones and boulders. The Beginners exit was up and over the left bank, while the Novices cont inued on into section four. Section five proved to be the wet spot in most of the riders' day as many dabs were recorded on the rocks. Joe Grencius and Wayne Scott were closely followed by Jim Boutell until the log stopped Jim. Wayne wound out the day as top Novice. Dave Patterson, following some Expert schooling was tops in the Beginner class and now enjoys the rank of Novice. The Women and Kids c asses were combined and included a two hour school held by Boyd -Bernard. With sections set up especially for them. these classes have sfarted to grow once again. ;J.n The highlight for the day was the - Sidehack competition. With eight teams signed up, it proved to be most exciting. Since this is a new event here in southern California, most of the other riders turned into spectators or checkers. With some revised section nags for thr "Hacks," Section one became a "Let it all hang out" situation. Section two was over the bank and around the tree. Sections three and five were in sand with turns and then up banks. Section four was the true test, off the bank and a light turn at the bottom, up the stream and over the log at the end. Long dabs, stalling and several good old crashes all led to lotS of fun and laughs for a day in the life of trials riders. Those interested in Sidehack trials ,competition contact Boyd at Burbank Yamaha-Montesa for a fall series starting in October. The number is 213/845-8738. Next V.O.T.E. event is Sept. 23. Lawrence, Hansen, Strauss top final CRCIIRC SerIes MX By Keith Clemons TRABUCO CANYON, CA, AUG. 5 This was the final round of the 'California Racing Club/IRC Tri 'Race Series and the final round for Racing World motosports park as well. Racing World officially closed the doors to the motocross scene with this last race but wrapped it up with a CRC spectacular which packed - - 'em in for a mammoth goodbye and ) along with Inoue Rubber Co.. put ·on ~'-a classic race that will make Racing lI'World long remembered. It was the third and last race for CRe's IRC summer series and the last chance to cash in on the $7,500 in awards to be given away. Pros going for the big money lined up in force while sportsmen scrambled through the dust to claim their products and trophies. Over 1,400 riders showed up to race in the series' three events. Mike Brown and his LOP Yamaha led wire to wire in the first 125cc Pro race but later, after running in the 250cc class also, wasn't able to follDw it up for the overall. Brown ran the first race untouched followed by Mark Lawrence most of the way. Lawrence held a strong second until the ninth lap when Jammin' Jim Holley was able to jump by. Lawrence came back, hDwever, to finish number two on his own LOP Yamaha, putting Yamaha support rider Holley back into third. Taking over Brown's first race position, John O'Mara led the second moto from holeshot to nag and came back from a first-race fDurth place to complete the day third overall. Lawrence held the second place position throughout the moto once again, which put hiin in position to take the first place money. Brown, with his third place in the second moto, captured second overall. Holley finished fourth. Donnie Hansen took cDmmarni Df the top money position in the 250cc Pro race. Starting with the holeshot he carried the number one position for four laps but Greg Robertson popped his Wheelsmith Maico into the front before the close of the fifth. Hansen didn't give up, however, and pressured Robertson into yielding the position back on the ninth lap. Mike Brown rolled home in third. After finishing fourth in the fust race Jeff Jennings hopped his U.S. Suzuki into an early lead and looked like an easy winner for six laps. Hansen picked up a fourth place start, but he wasn't to be left behind and on the seventh tour of the course pushed Jennings aside to lay claim to his second win for the day and top 250cc money. Jennings finished second in the race but only fourth overall. Mike Brown finished third again but did it the hard way, coming up from a sixth place start. Brown was rewarded for his effort with a second overall while third for the day went to Greg Robertson. Scott Cavness rode his Anaheim Suzuki to take a no contest Open Pro first moto win.. Cavness led the troops from the drop of the gate to the drop of the nag. Hal Strauss picked up an early second place position and held it all the way with Bob Marino not far behind to finish third. The last race of the day was the final round for the Open Pros. First moto winner Cavness bailed out early in the second moto and couldn't pick it up in time to make an effective finish. Meanwhile, Donnie Hansen, who dumped his set-up in the first moto for his own bad finish, came up hot in the second round. Hansen followed fronrunner Strauss for the first four. laps but cut by to take the second moto win before the end of the fifth. Strauss didn't worry about it though his two second places landed him first overall. Second overall went to Mark White who finished third in the second moto and third for the day wound up being Cavness. Goodbye Racing World MX, from the California Racing Club. Results OPEN PRD: 1.
