McGhee flees to Speedway 117 win By Rod Eschenburg CHULA VISTA, CA,JVLY 18 Kawasaki rider David McGhee came up with a second and first place effort last Wednesday night at the big Speedway 117 night course to score his first ever Intermediate 125cc win, and Mark Seymour (Hon) broke out of a point lead tie with Peter Sampo to now lead the 250cc Intermediate pack. McGhee took a second to the always-favored "Wailin' Woody" Carlson in the first moto of the 125s with a quick pass on last week's winner Kevin Graves. He found himself once again behind Carlson and Graves in the second moto; then all of a sudden McGhee zapped Graves for second and Woody fell down and Graves had trouble! A steady riding Steve Kepliart came in second and Jack Lewis squeaked out·a third overall, with neither Kephart or Lewis in the top three in either moto. A big field of real hard chargers! In the 250cc Intermediates, Seymour parlayed two seconds into an overall win over co-point leader Peter Sampo (Suz) who bad a 1-3 finish. After the first moto it looked like Sampo had things in hand, as he easily downed Seymour and Bob Caulfield. However, in the second molO Ron Lonsbury blasted into the lead and went wire to wire for the win with Seymour and Sampo battling it out for second and the overall. After much "rasslin' around." Seymour emerged in control for second and the overall and a two point lead in the ND Spark Plugs 1979 point standings. The top Junior class had. to be the 2505 with Ricki Grasser closing slightly on point leader Ron Laffranchi with a -Wee~ly News Not Monthly.
