In the Intermediates Tom Nimtz
broke out of a three·way point
deadlock with a strong two for two win
over Randy Norman who came back •
from a crash in die first mota to get
second off a 5-2 finish. The 125cc
Intermediates lived up to their
reputation once again with a new
winner going two for two in the form
of' Kevin Grav.es. Graves, who moved
into the Intermediates about two
months ago was as smooth as "Wallin'
Woody" Carlson was w'i1d as he cruised
in the winner over another new
Intermediate rider, Gary Rodriguez,
who had a tie· breaker. second over H.J.
Rinard. Hey, "let's not forget those
250cc Intermediates; a real tight point
race is shaping up between Peter
Sampo, Craig Infeld and Mark
Seymour. Sampo took a two for two go
over Infeld with Seymour in third, so
now it is Sampo and Infeld tied up for
first in the points and former co· leader
Seymour in third·.
In Junior action, the two. big ones
were the 250cc two for two ·blast by
Rick Grasser who moved from fourth
in the 1979 point standings intO a
virtual deadlock with Ron Laffranchi,
and the tie·breaker second 125cc moto
win by Manny Leon over last week's
winner Don Seay, Jr., with Mike
Monsegur in for a close third. Seay
_ continues as the point leader, but
Leon now moves into second and
Monsegur will jump from II th to
sixth.

Only five short hours after the
Coca-Cola Superbowl of Moto·
cross concluded, the gates of
Indian Dunes Motorcycle Park
opened up to let in the nearly 200
riders who made it up in time to go
race on a revised Shadow Glen course
with the California Racing Club.
Throughout the day the heat kept
pumping up, but that didn't slow
down AI Baker's FMF/Yamaha
Support rider Johnny. O'Mara,
Yamaha·mounted Mark Lawrence, or
Cole Bros. Maico rider Mark White
from taking home top money in the
day's Pro classes.
First out of the gate were the Open
Pros, and Mark White was hot on his
Maico Magnum. He defeated Bill
Keese the first moto and Hal Strauss
the second, both runner·ups also
aboard Maicos, and took the' overall
win while Keese picked up second with
his third in round two, and Strauss
cashed in on third with hiS 4-2 scores.
