Moto two saw Hansen taking the win with Jannings in second and this time AI Baker's FMF rider Tim Locey (Yam) took third. Jannings was the overall wi'Pler with Hansen and Denton second and third. In the Open Pro race, it was Cole Bros. Maico riders 1-2-3. Hal Strauss took the win followed by Andy Jannings and Mark White in third. As . the gate dropped for the second round, we saw Donnie Hansen (Kolbe C-A) taking' die holeshot, the lead, and the win followed by Jannings in second and Bakersfield Yamaha rider Dan-en Oliver in third. The overall win was Jannings with Hansen taking second and third going to StrausS. In the Open Intermediate class there was quite a duel going on between Cole Bros. Maice-mounted Nick Athans and Westlake Suzuki's Steve Shover. Shover pulled the win in thenrst moto followed by Athans and Lynn Dennis (Mai). The second round saw Athans taking the win over Shover and Don Durrer (Mai). The overall order was Athans, Shover and Dennis. take AME $600 MX ,>- By Laura Richard I . . I VALENCIA, CA. JUNE 29 The turnout was very impressive as over 200 riders showed up to do battle in the second round of the American Motocross Enter- .' 34 prises Summer Series at Indian Dunes. With a $600 purse being offered to the Pros tonight and the prizes being offered by the more than 29 sponsors. it really pays the riders to show up for the events. In the I25cc Pro race DC's Willy Simons (Yam) took the holeshot and held the lead all the way followed by Yamaha Support rider Jim Holley, Ron Barkn Honda rider Bob Kline. Mota two saw the lead going to Holley with Simons taking second and third going to AI Baker's FMF-sponsored John O'Mara (Yam). The overall win went to Holley with Simons' second. Third went to Answer Products Suzuki rider Mark Mdscrop with a 4-5 finish. In the 250cc Pro class Cole Bros. Maico rider Andy Jannings led all the way in the first mota with l.OP fought motos. At the start of By Ron Lawson round one, he was near the rear of the pack while Craig Dale (Suz) wheelied away with the lead. Rick Rodgers (Kaw) held on to second until the. third lap when both he and Dale dropped out of the race. From there on in it was Stout's show. Andy Orescanin (Suz) moved into second in the following laps while Greg Zitterkopf (Suz) held third, making a Suzuki sweep. . The second time out saw Stout again in back of the parade and Rodgers on top. Troy Lee (Suz) took over on lap two and soon he had a big lead. making it almost impossible for Stout, who was in ~ond place on 'the next lap, to catch up. Lee. finished with his lead intact and Stout was satisfied with second, knowing that he had top money. Lee was second overall and Orescanin third place showing in the final moto was good for third overall. Phil Thorstensen (Hon) put in his first race in several weeks in the 250cc Pro c10ns Friday. He has evidently kept in practice judging b.J the way he'ran away from both motos. D.me Wigington (Kaw) took second after crashing in mota one while Tim Criswell (Suz) was third. In mota two, Wigington didn't go down, but he still had to settle for second behind Thorstensen. Billy Saylon (Yam) took third away from Criswell this time while Matt Zigeler (Suz) rounded out the top five. The 250cc Intermediate class again fell to Dave Fernandez (Yam). Fernandez grabbed the early lead of both motos and built a strong lead. The Rincon Kawasaki duo of Todd Schaeffer and Jerry Ebling took second and third in the first round, but in the next race. Schaeffer's shadow was red instead of green as Honda-mounted Glen Wells took third. In the .Open Intermediate class, Don Glover (Yam) took his first win at Corona, s1amrning both motos over Michael Hair (Yam) and Ladell Eide (Suz). Speaking of the Open class, the Beginners out in force, numbering many more than usual. Rick Harris topped them all on his Suzuki fourstroke with a 3-1 performance while Dave Duke (Suz) went 4-2 for second and Pete Kinney was third.
