Watts 800-392-3087 Inderbitzen celebra.red his newly earned Class "C" Expert plate with a 250cc Expert win; John Pittman won the 360cc Expert, despite receiving eight stitches in his hand as the result of a tire cutting episode; Jeff Haney jetted to the 500cc Expert main event on the factory Honda; and Doug Chandler extended his lead on the number one plate for his fifth straight year. Young Kun Chandler has been• showing up very well in' the 100cc Expert Mini program and he won again tonight over Chris Carr who will likely get some tuning done on his box stock Jorgy Suzuki. before the upcoming National Amateur qualifier. In the combined 80-100cc - class it was Chris Roehlk over Kevin Brinker. Ricky Diaz pulled off the SOcc Novice win over Benny Scandina. The 80cc Expert class is like watching a National. One interesting facet of it aU is that in 1980, the first set of former Mini bike racers will be Class "C" Experts. So all you under J4·year· olds who dream of the big time,_ remember that when Jeff Haney and Brian Tl:iompson bolt on their black and white plates for Houston, they were where you are now. At 13, Doug Chandler appears to be well on the road to going out as the point leader, eventhough he won't have a chance to win ~ fifth straight Black Plate number one title. Chandler's win tonight was a runaway with Carr taking second and Aaron Hill in for third over Scott Nugent. Liz Powell won the, I25cc Novice main after following Debbie Rocha in the heat race. Powell was followed by all the boys with Brian Pedro staying up for the second place trophy. Shawn Black, a fonner minibke plate holder, continues to dominate the 250cc Novice class, winning over Kevin Fernandez, while Dennis Houser did the same.in the 250cc Junior, beating out Darrell Thompson and Sc;ott Rose for trophies. The 250cc Expert was a thriller with a special surprise as Alex Jorgensen returned to the foray after recovering from his horrendous Houston limb buster. With three heat races and a semi. it was a surprise to see the first three guys lined up - Kim Jorgensen, Jimbo Filice and Alex. Kim got stuck in a traffic jam, Alex seized and Jimbo made a left hand turn rather abruptly. after burning out a clutch, and nearly made the big splash in the infield pond. Alex suffered yet another seizure running second to Kim and Jim inherited the second spot transfer to the main. Dialing in the staner, "Loose" Leroy Baker, Mike Inderbitzen was long gone for the win with Rick Arnaiz doing some fancy passing for second. Ted Davidson and Ben Zakarian traded off bang and berm shots. allowing Jimbo Filice to catch up on his rocketship Champion Yamaha that has been breathed upon by Hank Scott and shows it. Those three put on a good show for the very abbreviated five laps main. Mike Bird flew the Bird Honda to the 360cc Novice/Junior win over Bill Hensley while John Brewer captitalized on a Mike Wright error for the 500cc Novice win. Scott Baker and Monty Latif continue an ageless battle for the 500cc Junior crown, sWapping leads and wins which made it look like they're really having a lot of fun. John Pittman was doing some trick cutting on his Carlisle tire early in the practice program when he missed and had to have stitches taken in his hand. John didn't let them bother him and rode the Zakaerian Bultaco to th~ 360cc Expert win over Ted Davidson. Mike Inderbitzen was looking for a double header win by leading off the 500cc Expert, but a few misplaced shifts put him b,ack to third. Jeff Haney jetted from a poor start to the win on the trick Jerry Griffith tuned XR 500 Honda with Craig Scroggins looking very smooth for second. Results ex: '00 1. Kurt Chandler lYam); 2.
