The IOOcc Junior riders were mingling with all the others and the contest was won by Terrence Mumford, Rick Kramer, Chris Fleming, Brian Bates and Joe Watson. orman Nilsson is one of the winningest riders in CMC racing and ordinarily competes in both the 125 and 250cc Intermediate classes. However, it looks like he will be just doing some serious racing in the 250cc class since he sold his Kawasaki KX 125. He gained a few more points toward becoming a Pro !>y sbutting down the entire 250cc Intermediate class, taking first in each moto rather easily. Jerome Zimmer of Bay Cycle had a fine 5-2 score, which gave bim second overall. DMG rider Mike Foley beat Zimmer in the first round but trailed in the second and more improtant race. So, Foley won a good size third place trophy. CA_ 714-:z44.5425 Hawley hauls lor two at CMC Ascot MX By Tom Corley GARDENA, CA, JUNE 6 The skies were looking ready to rain cats and dogs, as it turned out, only a constant drizzling fell on the Ascot track this evening. Nothing drastic was done. yet the track was changed a little on the stretch just past the concessions and everyone seemed to appreciate that. Orange County Suzuki racer Pat Hawley has been powering it lately. Pat races a RM400 in the 500cc Intermediate class and tonight he raced to win in that race along with a surprise entry in the IOOcc Intermediates. This was quite a switch of bikes and Pat almost dwarfed the little RMIOO that he raced on. When he started out in the first moto, he had to get the feel of the bike, so he trailed after young Scott Graham (Yain). Then in the second moto Pat got the jump and led till the finish of the race. Overall Hawley won the IOOcc Intermediate trophy, Graham took second overall and was surprised by the newcomer. Others that were racing on the track at the same time included the Mini Junior winners Blake Vitali, to a beautiful blue sky, then started raining again and then finally cleared up into perfect racing condhions. Taking full advantage of the cool temperatures was Kurt Sorka on his Wheelsmitb Can-Am, who pUI in a 1-1 ride in the 250cc Pro class. Right from the start ofmoto one, Sorka was on top. Following him in the early laps were Scott Haydis (Hon) and Tracy Oswell (Suz) while Danny Burtt (Suz) battled with John Atwood (Mai) for fourtb. Burtt spent five laps trying to find an opening before he finally passed Atwood. and then he immediately caught up to Oswell. who in turn passed Haydis. Burtt, Oswell and Sorka were then within spitting distance of one another and they remained that close until tbe end of tbe race. After tbey shot off the line for moto two, it was once more a three way battle. Sorka was being pushed by Oswell, but Burtt spent the first few laps making up for his eighth place start. By the midway point, however, they were again in tight formation with Sorka holding the edge_ The order held until the white flag lap, when Burtt found a way around Oswell and finished a close second. Atwood came across the line a removed fourth ahead of Haydis. Craig Gormley of Indio Suzuki had little trouble in walking away from the 125cc Expert class as usual. This time
