For the three Pro classes there was $750 in purse monies and around $900 in gift certificates for the sportsmen. T here was plenty of action going on in the 125cc Pro part of the program; so m any riders that there were two divisions, a consolation and a main event. Ron Turner of Luft Shocks has been the winningest local Pro. Turner just recently won all three classes in Pro racing at OCIR and was attempting to do it again . He sh ut down th e 125cc Pro Division I a nd qualified rather easily for th e ma in event . His match was met th ou gh as LOP sta r Gary Denton was p ower ing it in his unequall ed nig httim e style. Denton led the fast pack as T u rner pla yed pa ss and go with Bob Klin e on a Honda. When th e chec kered ca me out it was Denton who cla imed th e nice $150 win over Turner , Kline , Rick " Rocket" Maki, Gregg T oyam a and Glenn Page. All ende d up on Stu Peters' check list. While Turner was edge out of the overall 125cc Pro cash, he succeeded in taking home a bundle still by dominating all of the big bore classes. Cycle World test rider Steve Bauer was determined to win so he jumped out ahead of everyone in the first 250cc Pro mota for th e win . Turner hung in there closely from second place while Tim - Lu nd e placed a fine third. Turner turned tables on Bauer in the fin al round by maintaining the first place position while Lunde crashed in a corner before the stands. Overa ll it was Turner , Bauer, J im Tarantino, Lunde and Benavidez, H usky -mounted 500cc Pro threat Goat Breker wasn't in action th is time so Turner found the pickings to be a lot easier in on e more Pro class. Radical Ron cleaned up with two firsts in th e 500cc Pros over Tarantino. Results MINI JR : 1. Todd Campbell IKaw ); 2. Ly les McPherson (Suz); 3. Ron Rogers (Yaml. MIN I INT: 1.
