Dunlap, L echien battle at CMMC MX By Rod Eschenburg Photo by Photocross SAN DIEGO, CA, A PR. 15 " - With the Easter Bun ny hiphopping t hrough the Ca lifornia Mini Motorcycle Club backyards, many riders apparently decided to stay hom e a nd sca rf up th e hu evos rather than get th eir kicks racing on a very fine course at Barona Oaks , but the seri ous ra cers that sh owed up really ca me to ra ce . The wildest ra ce in th e Min is was the Modified Exp ert cla ss , where team Kawasaki ride r Kenny Dunlap out-dueled new R&D Suzuki rider Ronnie Lechien for a tie breaker second moto win . The second moto was spi ced by a co llision on th e last la p betw een Lechien a nd Dunlap with th e rea l race being who co uld get up a nd sta rt ed th e soonest , and it was Dun lap . Lechien came ba ck to win th e Special 105cc Minis over a ch arging Scott Hewatt, who has now picked up ESC-Suzuki sponsorship . In the Sto ck Mini Experts, it was crash and break ci ty in the fir st moto with Suzuki rider Terry Mu rray surviving for the win . In t he second r ound Lechi en and Dunlap. who DNF in the first moto , ran 1-2 , but Murray took a close third for the overall. In other Mini action, Sco tt Hewatt (Suz) scored a sweep in the 12-16 -yearo ld Modified Intermediates and a come from behind tie-b reaker win over new Intermediate John Faure (Kaw) in the Stock class . Looks like Hewatt will be a new Expert shortly , but he won 't be missed since new Intermediates Larry Butler, A ,D . Pifer and John Ph illips p lus April Dunlap will certainly fill the gap very well . And speaking of filling the gap .
