The 125cc Juniors Division 2 fell to Terrin Keefer (Ya m) today. but the win wasn't en ough to get him past Mark Howell (Suz) who retained his points lead with a second overall. Rich Varner (Kaw) kept his third-place certificate with a seventh . In the regular Pro portion of the program . J im Tarantino (Suz) picked up the win in the first 500cc moto. Husky-mount ed Alan Smith ca me up from fifth to pressure him on lap five . but bailed when he tr ied to go by Tarantino in th e rutty ba ck straight. Smith kept seco nd. though . ahead of Tim Tol ar (Su z), David Geri g (Esc/ O P) and Mark Mohs (C ·A). Scott Cavness (Suz) bolted from the gate faster than the rest of th e crowd in the second rnoto, but was pass ed by Gary T ru esd ill (Suz) and Tarantino by the end of th e firs t lap. Truesdill killed his motor at th e start of lap three . though . and dropped to fifth . Tarantino and Cavness commenced a feud which ended when Tarantino's bike stalled at the end of lap nine . letting Ca vness go for the moto win . Tolar was the only rid er to ride b y Tarantino. who tri ed unsuccessfully to forge past Tolar on th e last lap , ending up taking a little excursion off the track instead. His third was good enough for the overall win anyway. Truesdill inherit ed fou rth from Gerig who pulled off th e track with a wren ched foot and knee . Smith experienced a setback in the early going , but came up to snatch fifth from Scott Walker (Suz) on th e last lap . H ond a rider Jim Gibson dominated the 250 and 125cc Pros, win ning all four motos with unbelievable ease . He finished far ahead of Tim Lunde (Yam) , Tarantino and Andy Guth (Kaw) in the first 250 cc moto. 1n the second, he was forced to work harder, though . A first · turn tangle with Bill Jewell (Mai) sent bot h to the ground. He got going before Jewell, but the pack was ra pidly di sa ppearing, led by Lunde , Marty Miller (Suz) and Tarantino. Gibson pulled out all stops and grabbed the lead on lap eight. After that it was goodbye JimJTarantino put the move on Lunde on the last la p to claim second. In the 125cc class , Gibson ran by himself out front the whol e moto . Behind him. Ric k Johnson (Yam) . back from a broken leg . held off Suzuki speedster Scott Burnworth . Gerig was unable to do the same with Mi ller . losing fourth on lap II but st aying with him ten aciou sly. Gibson look ed like he was just cru ising the second moto , but the style was good enough to pull away from sec o n d- p lace Burnworth at tw o seconds a lap . Ross Ma ed a (Suz) rod e well and was rewarded with a third . follow ed by J ohnson . Gerig and Tim Murphy (Ho n) .
