DeAnzaMX features new track By Ron Lawson G "" I )f SUNNYMEAD, CA: ~ APR . 8 Visitors to DeAnza Cycle Park were greeted by a totally reva m ped motocross trac k co nsisting a lmostly entirely of ch alle nging off-camber turns and mind -blowing . downhills. And park owner Doug Hall says he has even more plans for widening and lengthening the course in comiing weeks . The holeshot in round one went to Da rry l Lumbattis of Bill's Cycle in San Bernardino but hot on his tail were both Barnes and Mark Ellis (Yam). The top three spots were so close that for the first five laps they could have interchanged positions with ease, but t hen B a rn es found a way past Lumbattis and he j umped into the lead. A lmost immediately Ba rnes opened a small lead which he kept until the end of the race . Bu t Lumbattis still had his hands full with . Ellis . The battle between them would surely have been a good one. but Ellis' bike , which had been giving him trouble all day , locked up in the eighth lap. At the same point in the race , Phi lip Taboada of Ind io Suzuki ended his duel with C lint Tarvi n (Hon) a nd ' jumped into third where he stayed un til the end of the race. When they pulled off the track . Barnes still held his lead over Lurnbattis and Taboada who were a hea d of Tarvin and Floyd Burk ( Yam ). . The secon d time out.
