Briggs was successfully holding off Sanders but with these two racing buddies anything can happen and usually does . On the 11th lap Minnig found the hol e he was looking for and came up with th e lead. Perkins tried everything he knew but Minnig had his sights on number on e and rode a defensive race that put him in th e winner's circle. Perkins was a solid second with Briggs third , Sanders fourth and Neihart fifth . T he short track Money races d id not have the la rge purse of the half mile events but the raci ng was no less intense and the 250cc class had to qualify for the main. Those making the field were Doug Garrison, Paul Johnson, Chris Cannon, Briggs. Mike Hale, Jay Lewis, Mike Garrison, Klatt and Hames. It was again Mike Garrison with a super start with Hames and Klatt in close pursuit. Hames did his number and came up with the lead by. the second lap and Klatt followed him one lap later to move to second with Mike Garrison holding third . From there on out the fearsome threesome ran away with it and at the checkered were still running 1-2-3 . The Open Money short track saw Doug Garrison, the older half of the Garrison team, turn in an outstanding performance, going wire to wire for the win . Chris Cannon, aboard a big bike for the first time at Corona, was second at the start with Randy Griffith third . Cannon held on for three laps before Darrell Rowlett came charging through traffic to take it over after Cannon ran into trouble . Rowlett held the position until the seventh lap when Griffith got things working again and took it over. Cannon was on the mov e and had worked his way 10 third . When the white flag came out he got by Griffith and nailed down second . Griffith held off Rowlett to take third . Double wins were garnered by Roger Thompson and Brent Bowers in the Mini Expert and Novice divisions respe ctively and Eddie McKinney in the Open Novi ce . Mike Garrison and Frank Schoenbach er split th e 125cc Expert class with Garrison taking th e short tra ck and Schoenbacher the half mile . Randy Howard got th e 250 cc Nov ice short tra ck win with Mike Taylor tak ing th e seco nd but on th e half mile . Taylor revers ed things as he came up with the win . Jeff Johnson and Dennis Camp split the 250cc Expert win with Camp taking the half mile. Dorothy Rowe made her presence felt as he won the Open Amateur/Expert half mile.
