CA 92277 22 . 714/367-9179 the rest of the race , but in the last la ps, Bottorff lost third place . to Tim Richardson. The second moto was another oneman-show for Ellis. He was on top every lap and fin ished with an impressive lead. Roeseler onc e again crossed the line in second ah ead of Richardson. Chris Tarvin (Hon) and Bottorff. It wasn 't quite so one-sided in the 125cc Pro class . Ellis was riding the class ona bike loaned to him by his sponsors at Fullerton Yamaha ' and he knew that Danny Burtt of Redlands Suzuki would be his chief competition . In moto one Ellis shot off the line with Burtt in hot pursuit. John Silva (Suz) came out of the hole in sixth pla ce but was soon kn ifing his way up to the leaders. By the halfway point. th e to p three positions were all alone with Ellis still holding on to th e lead . They sta yed in single file right down to th e checkered flag where the order read Ellis. Burtt, Silva , Rick Ba rrow (Yam) and Scott Quick (Suz). In round two . Burtt was sure he didn't wa nt to take second again. So sure. in fact , that he grabbed the holeshot and led the race from beginning to end. Not being one to give up easy. Ellis gave it all he could and was .righ t there with Burtt on every lap. Silva' had crashed before he even reached the first turn , but still managed to take th ird in the overall standings behind Burtt and Ellis. The 125cc Novice class was another split d ecision. The first mot o went to J ohn Dimmitt and his Yamaha aft er d icing with T om my Hodgin (Suz), but round two was tak en by Joey T hom as (Su z). Dim m itt still took overall honors, and T homas' S· l score was good en ough for second over Hod gin . Other Sportsmen highligh ts incl ud ed Robert Robertson 's vic to ry in the gung-hot After the past week's rain . CMC was forced to use the alternate motocross track at Saddleback Park. The change in tracks did not seem to hamper the performance of Mike Tripes aboard his new 1979 Suzukis. Because of the mild turnout of participants. the 125 and 250cc Pro classes were combined. The first moto saw Lu i: DeL ey pulling the holeshot and quickly putting space between himself and the second place runner, Ch ris Chaffee (Yam). : While DeLey and Chaffee were battling for the top spot in the 250cc Pro category, a good race had developed in the 125cc Pro class onl y a cou ple of bikes back. Mike Toycen (Yam) and Tripes were within inches of each other for eight of the 14 laps in the moto. On lap nine , Tripes gave it a little extra and sliced inside of Toycen to take the lead in the 125cc class and now pursued Chaffee and De Ley fo r the overa ll lead . W ith DeLey pulling from the pack, Tripes and Toycen moved past Chaffee to continue their fight : for the 125cc honors. At the flag , DeLey picked up an easy victory with Chaffee second. Tripes outlasted Toycen for the 125 motowin . Moto two was almost a carbon copy of moto one except DeLey was out of the running with mechanical troubles. So, for the record , the final 125cc standings are as follows: firs t went to Tripes , second to Toycen and thirdto Joe Bonetti (Suz). The 250cc Pro breakdown was as follows : first to Chaffee, second to T ed Ho yt (Yam) . and th ird place honors to Willie Amarado (Kaw). The 500c c Pros was a two man battl e betw een Chaffee and Trip es again . In bo th mot os Tripes ran awa y with th e race and th e overa ll mon ies. Results 125 PRO: 1. Mik e Tripes ISuzt; 2.
