WA, DEC . 9 Jack McGill, riding for Yamaha as an area support rider, put it ·to the 100cc Intermediate class . after clinching a perfect ' I-I for the day. McGill was hot off the line and notched his twin moto wins by handling. the YZ through the hoops . over the Jumps and around the berms convincingly. Ga ry Harkleroad (Yam) from Kalama . W A . cut in on th~ action and motored to twin seconds while Steve Corcoran (Yam) . down from Kelso . made it a Yamaha sweep with his third place overall. By the time the 125cc Intermediate riders came to the line . they knew ~omethin~ was brewing. A new name I~ . the line-up, Lance Schoening. ndmg a Kawasaki out of Bremerton WA . was down to do battle against the loca~s. Schoening. a green blur. devastated the ranks and new to perfect 1-1 rnotos for the overall. Clarance Gardner. (Yam) up from S~le....... Or~gon.. managed to stay within vlewmg distance and by doing so he took home the second place 125cc Intermediate honors for the day. Jeff Bechtold. riding for Garners Yamaha, was good for third overall and Kurt Grinnell. (Suz) down from Port Angeles . WA. managed to finish fourth on a track he'd never seen before. Woodland's own Bruce Irwin (Suz) came from behind in the 250cc Intermediate class to pull off a second in th~ first moto. After starting in the middle of the pack he had swiftly passed all but three riders by the first lap . Four laps later he put the move on Shad McMahan (Ma i) for his second place finish in the first rnoto . The sec~nd moto was a different story; Irwin came off the line first and sta yed there for the entire moto which earned him the overall win . Bob Circerchi (Yam) was second and Gary Boslar (Yam) third overall for the day . .Joe K~ight took his Husky a o an overall wm-th the Open Intermediate class . Joe. who can be fast . decided to wear his race face today and put to~ether 2-1 motes . Jim Greear (Yam) finished second and Bob Lish (Yam) pulled a third: . ' Results PEE WEE'S JR : 1. Jack Mcgill wee It didn't take long for a real bat- tle to develop between Dave Ryan and Ken Gray, both Yamaha mounted . in the Open Expert race . Ryan got the holeshot off the line with Gray right behind him . Although it was wheel -to-wheel most of the race Ryan finished on top . . Corning hot off the line in the SOcc Mini Novice ra~e. Tommy Seidel (Suz}, took the lead with Randy Hice'(Suz) in se~ond and Troy Strausen (Yam) in third, All three rode .well, making no mistakes. and finished exactly as they started. The IOOcc Mini Novice race was a batt~e between . two brothers. Jeff Jeffnes tore off the line with David Jeffries in second. both on Yamahas. Jeff held Dave off until lap six when Dave passed him in a turn and when Jeff tried to' regain the lead he took a spill just before the finish. Bre.nt Cash (Suz) put , on quite a show In the lO?cc Mini Junior/Expert ~ .ra ce . Cash claimed the lead with Jeff Valentine (Yam) , in second. Luckily. Cash had obtained quite a lead when he lost his chain in the seventh lap. He somehow managed to get it fixed and still won his race. . Greg Snodgrass (Suz) took the lead m the 125cc Novice race with Jim Benson (Suz) and Jerry Standridge (Kaw) close behind . A battle was brewing between Benson and Standridge to .see who would keep second. Standridge got by Benson in the middle of the race. then he began to work on Snodgrass who had enjoyed a comfortable lead for a while . On the sevent~ lap he got under Snodgrass and ZIpped across the line ahead of Snodgrass and Benson. !he 25~c~ Novice class proved to be quite excmng. Lex Dillman (Hem) held onto the lead for the first half of the race only to give it up to Steve Clark (H .D) in the . fifth lap . Clark held it a couple of more laps but relinquished it to Ken Wolcott (Hon) wh~'d been ~orking his way up from behind to fimsh with a win . T~dd Cash (Yam) got off the line first In th~ Open Novice race . but he took a spill on the third lap . leaving first place to William Rodgers (Yam) and .Gary Johnson (Hon) in second. Commg from behind on the fifth lap Rick Perez (Yam) got under Johnso~ and had such a lead by the finish that Perez had to settle for second. The combined Veterans/Old
