Well tonight was the re -opening of nigh t motocross a t OCIR and St u Pe te rs a n d h is Co n t ine n t a l Moto sports C lu b was handl ing the program . For th is first r ace at OCIR there were j ust under 150 riders but the nam es "fere well known . T he superstar of the eveni ng was CMC Number One T im Lu nde who ate up both the 125 a nd 250cc Pro classes . Amazing as it is Tim ended u p with four moto wins . quite a feat considering the na mes he was up against. In the 125cc Pro competition Lu nde blasted th e ot hers includi ng second and t hird place Todd Peterson and Hu ff H adley. For the last three weeks th ere has bee n something new every Frid ay night. A change made in the turn below the dropaway two weeks ago was returned to its original course tonight. but changes made on the back straight and two of th e turns remained . This made racing more interesting. if not tougher. for riders used to the old track. The first moto of the 125cc Pro race saw Will y Simons. John O'Mara and John W e lc he l finish 1-2-3 . Edwin Arnet , o n h is Suzu ki from Co le Bro the rs. was first off th e line in th e seco nd moto fo llowed by Willy Simons DG Yama ha from DG Yamaha . and John O ' Mara on h is AI Ba ke r spo nsored Suzu ki. Arnet kept the lead for the entire ra ce while Simons and O 'Mara di ced fo r th e next two positions. O'Mara stayed a lert a nd fina lly passed Simons in the fifth lap but never cou ld ca tc h up i t o Arn et. O 'Mara took the first overa ll. followed by Simons . Arnet and Welch el. The seco nd moto of the 250cc Pro event sta rted wit h Dave Haugh on his I'd The Senior Veteran's class a t DeAnza was unusually strong last Sunday. In spite of that, it was Crown Cycle's Dan Moore (Mai) on to p of both mo tos . When . th ey file d on to th e track for moto on e . it was Bill Bu rkh a rt (M ai) in co m mand, bu t in less t ha n two laps. Moore ha d taken over. Meanwhile, the race for th ird pla ce was the closes t one on the track with th ree riders go in g for it. John Wilson (Yam) had it until la p th ree when he d ropped back and th e spot was in herited by DeAnza r aci ng ma nager Ed Mich ett i (Mai) . Mich ett i held the spo t for a little wh ile , but he has just been out of the saddle too long . He bega n to poop out early in the race and Dou g Van Dozen (Hus) took over for him . The checkered flag saw Moore first , th en Bu rk hart . Van Dozen , Michetti and Steve Syma nski (Suz) . In mo to two , Mich ett i ju mped into the lead. For th ree la ps. he held off the rest of th e pack . but once again . his , en durance p roved to be less th an it shou ld b e . Moo re took co m m and wh ile Mich ett i fell back to fift h pl ace . The last moto a nd th e overa ll results went Moore , Bu rkhart , Van Dozeji. W ilson a nd Michet ti . In th e 250cc Expert class . it was the sa me old story.
