Scully was right on Thorstensen's ta il throughout the race, while Eropkin worked to make up for a middle-ofthe-pack start. Scully was just close enough to keep Thorstensen honest , but he never managed to get by. Eropkin fin ished third ahead of Joe Price (Mai), Bob Broten (Yam) and R. E. ,Wall (Yam) . T'horstensen took th e holeshot in round two , but thi s time it wa s Eropkin who m ade him work for his mo ney. Scull y remained a safe distance behind th e leaders for . the entire race. Overall it was Tliorstensen, Eropkin , Scully, Price, Broten , and Bill Ca pin (Suz) . T he 250cc In termediate ra ce was one; of the most exciting of the day. Brandon Baldwin, ridi ng for Redlands Suzuki , was the man to get th e holeshot in the first bout . He led for less tha n two laps before Kawasakimounted J erry Treckleton got by. Bald win then began to ha ve problems with his Suzuki that eventually caused him to DNF. Walt Olson (C-A) then took over the second spot ahead of Billy Saylors (Yam) and Mark Bottorff (Yam). Walt's -brother Kevin Olson (Mai) got off to a eighth place start, but on lap six he moved past Bottorff for fourth place. Three laps later, Kevin passed Saylo rs and then found himself in second place as his brother dropped out with a flat tire. By the end of the race, T reckleton had a good y 1ead ahead of Olson and Saylors. Joey McManus (Suz) jumped into the lead of the fina l round . Walt Olson , however, pushed his Can-Am around McManus on the third lap. Treckleton fell early in the race and was hard at work making up for lost time. Kevin Olsen was also behind the pack ' j but by the fifth lap, he was in seco nd place pushing his brother. Finally Walt gave in and Kevin shot int o the lead. By this time. T reckleton was in fou rth place looking for a way around McManus. In the last few laps, Treckleton found a hidden burst of speed that carried him past McManus and Walt into second position where he finished behind Kevin. The overall results went Olson, Treckleton , Saylors , McManus and Bottorff. Another top name in DeAnza's 250cc Intermediate line-up is Mike Meshkoff. This week , however , Meshkoff was in the Open class on a borrowed Ma ico . The big 440 and he must ha ve gotten along well because he took two stro ng first places against first-t ime Intermediate Terry Strickland (Ya m) and Whi te y Grego ry. Results MINI BEG: 1. Peter Cervantes lSuzl; 2. Stove Van Dozen lSuzl; 3. Todd Parker lSuzl. And along with the American Motorcycle Assoc iation 's high speed two wheelers-the . circu it's top and toughest riders.
