Gregson grabs Buena Vista victories ,By J effry Gle ason BUEN A VISTA. OR .JU NE 3-4 Mark Gregson smoked the 125cc Pros Sunday in Buena Vista motocross. but not without a battle from Johnny Welch, Robbie Clark , Ron Dimeo and Clayton Light. While Gregson and W elch went for it. the battle for third was getting fierce as Light and three class -rider Richard Earle tangled in the tight downhill comer. Light remounted and fin ished sixth while Earle called it quits . Gregson took th e flag with W elch, Dimeo. Clark and Brian Hall (Suz) following . Mota two saw Light (FMF) grab the holeshot as th e pa ck of 24 went wild dicing for position. State Champ Mark Gregson held down third and seemed to be content whil e Light a nd SCali Karr fought for th e lead. At the flag it was Light, Karr, Gregson , Welch a nd Ron Dimeo . Twenty-nine 250cc Pros had their chance to go for it. and that's just what they did . Rich Earle . on a new RC Honda , too k his usual holeshot and led all the way. Ron Dimeo and new Pi-a Shane Pielstick were at each other's heels. Pielstick's Ma ico bogged and Dimeo got by. Mota two saw Skeet Hise take the lead but a fall on th e last lap meant a DNF. Earle took th e overall with a clean sweep. Dimeo, Clay Light. Pielstick, Ron Sun and Scott Karr (Ma i) rounded out the money SpOlS. By far th e sm allest class was the Open Pros. at ·16 rid ers. State Champ Gr egson knew he had th is in th e b ag as he led wire to wire. Moto two saw Randy Wing take an ea rly lead. bu t Gregson, who fell at th e sta rt , cha rge d his way to third wh ile Rich Earle. in his sixth moto , was che wing awa y at Wing's lead. With two laps to go Earle a nd Wing collided , whi ch let Gr egson go for the win while Ron Sun . who DNF mo to on e, took second. Earle remo u nted for third a nd W ing fourth . Result s SATURDAV Carr. who staged a racelon g battle for secon d, But the 100cc ha d some difficulty as Shawn Bla ck led for most of the wa y. only to make a m istake in th e number two tum t hat allowed D~ug enough leewa y to ge t by for t he Dim inutive Filice waxed th e 250ccs by half a straightaway whi le Dave Faria made a sliding bump pa ss for second and Tony Adragna slippe d in for third . Filice returned to chase a nd block for third in the 500cc main . while Jones. a lfi -year-old scr am bles ace , won easily over · Rafe Hea th. Filice's two places made him th e top point rider for the night , bu t Faria took most of the money by winning the King Race over Alex Jorgensen , who borrowed his old bike from Novice Billy Arbogast, who had smoked his class , and came from outside second row for second, David Boyles. on the Spinetti's Honda , outlasted the Can -Arns of Ted Rouse, Hal Hook and Gabe Burrola to win th e largest class of the evening. 250cc Junior, and move into the lead for overall high point honors.
