Columbia bags HSMXwins By Jan Newman PORTLAND,OR, MA Y 20 Delta Park's H igh School moto cross , rained out a month ago, was greeted by good weather. Suddenly, after weeks of rain and coo l weather, Saturday was a real scorcher. Columbia River High School had the biggest turnout , followed by David Douglas, Benson and Evergreen , eac h with one less rider than t he 'school ahead of it . T he final results wer e in the exact same order, even though only the top six riders in each class received points for the overall tally. Columbia River was also the 1977 winn er . Sub totals as the even ing wore on showed a very close ra ce between the top two schools. They were virt ually tied halfway thro ugh th e final rnoto, but Co lumbia River finished well ah ead of David- Douglas by ha ving more entrants in the big bike classes. David Douglas had onl y two riders .en tered on 250cc bikes and none in the Open classes. That left a long d ry spe ll for them. Da vid Douglas started .piling up po ints ea rly in the small bike sizes. Jerry Anderson took both motes in the 100ccJunior. Columbia River cinched the 100cc 1ntermediate with a win for Jeff Bechtold and second for Dale Semmler, the only two riders entered . . Mike Beall won the 125cc Beginner and Doug Olsen the 125ccJunior B for David Douglas. 30 The 125cc Intermediate win went to Denny Reynolds for Benson's first sweep , then Brady Joy went 1-2 for th e 250cc Beginner win for Benson. Den Barbier brought in two firsts in the 250cc Intermediate class for Evergreen's first big win . Benson added points in the Open Beginner with Chuck Ra z a nd Richard Ba rrow s, th e on ly entrants. T here were only seven who rod e. J im . Anderson took th e lead from Allen Pitts in bo th 125cc Pro m otos. J im is from Kelso High .
