Second place was a littl e closer. wit h T er ry King (Ya m ) a nd Greg Ston e going for it. In bot h rou nds. it was King who ca me out on top , bu t he still had no hope of ca tc hi ng Ellis. In th e 250cc Exp ert class. it was first-time Pro Scott Quick who got t he money. Althou gh th e class was sma ller than usu al. Qu ick p roved tha t he is ' ca pa ble of going straig ht to th e top . He a nd his Su zuki ace d ou t K en Odra (Yam) in both 12-lap mot os. The biggest cla ss of th e d a y was. as usual . th e 125cc Beginner class. Richard Hoffm an (Su z) scored a second in moto one behind Dann J: Olson (Ya m ). but came back to win th e seco nd round . Olson , who had problem s and finished fifth that time . got ba ck on top wit h another win in th e final race. MAY 27 Little Jeff Ward rode his FMF Suz uki to an impressive overall win in the 125cc Pro class at this week's Saturday Saddleback MX . Ted Ho yt pu t his Suzuki out front in the first 125cc Pro moto with Husky rider Mike Monaghan close behind. Ward had gotten a bad start but qu ickly moved into th ird behind Monaghan. Within j ust three laps Ward passed both Monaghan and Hoyt to tak e th e lead . and rod e to th e win . Hoyt and Monaghan finished second and t hird respectively. The seco nd moto was all Ward's as he led from start to finish ending with a wide lead over second . Three riders made th eir bid s for the runner-up spot in an exci ting display of racing . Ho yt was again running in second but heavy pres sure from Monaghan and Yam ah a rider Ver e Butler made Hoyt slip off the groove .a nd Monaghan moved into second. Monaghan held on to second for several la ps before he also made, a mistake and both Hoyt a nd Butler got by. Butler a nd Hoyt really fought righ t to th e c heckers with Ho yt com ing out on top . Ward took home th e overall win money with Hoyt gett ing a wellearned seco nd and Monaghan third . Maico rider Jeff Vidi c showed th e way for the 250cc Pro cla ss with two perfect wins . Vidic led both rnotos Danny Ray 1131' a nd Ty Ma dd ux 1 battled at US MRA. w it h Madd ux 451 w inning. from start to fin ish wh ile Yamaha mounted Jim Domann sta yed close to finish second in both races . Kurt Sofka and his Can-Am pla yed follow the leader and ended the da y by placing third in both motos. Tim Tarintino put his Suzuki out front of the first 500cc Pro race . Close behind were Mark Brooks and Randy Rodriquez . both riding Mai cos. On the fifth la p Brooks took the lead from T arantino and held on to the fin ish. Tarantino fought off th e charges of Rodriquez to keep second ahead of Rodriquez. Rodriquez grabbed the lead of the second moto and never looked back. Brooks had to settle for second ahead of Jeff Witherell on a Maieo who finished third. Brooks got the overall win with a 1·2 score. Rodriquez (3-1) was second, and Tarant in o (2· 4) was th ird.
