Tavis takes Lodi Short Track By Ann Carr LOD! , CA , MAY 6 Spring short track continued at the Lodi Cycle Bowl Saturday with 198 riders in attendance. They came from as far north as Central Point, Oregon, and as far south as Buena Park to pick up brass from efforts on the one-fifth-mile oval which sported the season's widest blue groove. Oregon's Bobbie Blagg dusted the BOcc Novices in a , come-from -behind main win in the largest Mini class of the night. Blagg worked his way from a fourth place start and zipped by Hector Alcala on the white flag lap for the win . The BOcc Expert main was a locals ' show , the best of the evening. Chris Carr led most of the way, but a near getoff in the number two turn broke his concentration and Aaron Hill snuck by for the win after several turns of wheel -to -wheel racing. Shawn Black grabbed third. , T ed Rouse led the Jorgy's Can-Am parade in the 250ccJunior main wher e only the Kawasaki of Frank Garcia could break into trophy spot. David West took second while Gabe Burrola snatched fourth . Kim Jorgensen followed with his first 250cc Expert main win this season, in a runaway while Craig Scroggins and Jim Filice fought over second in a race-long battle. Scroggins took second. John Tavis and Dennis Spence continued their domination of the 360cc and 500cc Expert classes. Tavis waged a 'race-long battle with the Ron Heath Honda , ridden by son Rafe, and finally slipped by for the win. Tavis then chased buddy Spence in the 500cc go and this time could not get by. Spence continues to lead the Black Plate sta ndings for this season with a now comfortable margin. Lodi's annual Friday night season of ra cing will open June 2 for a flip -flop program of scrambles and short track competition. . Results MINIS 60 JRIEX: 1. Kelly Roche. IVaml; 2.
