Clint Hardick (H on) and Dal e Anderson finishing nex t. Blackman blasted off the gate to start the second Pro rnoto for the 250cc riders. By the end of the lap Lune had the lead with Blackman giving him plenty to think about. Dennis Curtis (Hon ) was the third place rider for three la ps until Hardick hauled around him to take over . First moto winner Dave Miller was in a bit of a bind as he got taken out on the start and got going late. Miller was coming on fast. O n lap seven Anderson and Miller came around the sweeper in front of the stand wheel to wheel and by the time the two had reached the ledge Miller put Anderson back to fifth. Dave was now concentrating his energies on eliminating Hardick. whom he passed on the 10th lap. Back a few places Doug Southward (H us) was holding off Steve Bartley and Jack Clawson (Yam) when the shocks on his machine blew and the riders got by him. When the points were tallied it was a three-way tie for first with Lunde gerting the overall money because of his second moto first -place finish . Blackman took home th e next bucks and Miller got third-place pa yback. Lunde won both motos of the 125cc Pros on an FMF Suzuki to give him a double for the day. J. , • • 300 honor Lisa Christensen at Memoria/MX By Denise de Vines Mci nnes SUNNYMEAD . CA . MAY 7 After two rainouts, the End Does M.C. couldn't have asked for nicer weather for their District 37 Lisa Christensen Memorial Motocross. Or a better turnout , with almost 300 entrants. Highlighting the day 's race sc hed ule was a special parade lap in tribute to the la te 15.year!,ld racer and her many contributions to motorcycle racing. Experts and Novices alike watched in awe as over 30 women racers carried bright bouquets of flowers on their bikes. then personally presented th em to Lisa's mother at the end ofthe memorial lap. The hacks showed up in for ce and proved to be the most exciting race of the day. Ralph Whitney and Russ Jones came as close as you ca n get to winning, coming in first in the first moto , and leading th e second moto all the way to the last lap , spinning out just before the end. J.1. and Pete Whitney took the overall , followed by Richard Langosh and Duane McDowell. One of the hacks also picked up a third passenger along the way .. . a four-Ioot-Iong snake, which they proudly exhibited crossing the checkered flag! In the Seniors' race . it just wasn't AI Stinebaugh's day. After taking the overall win in the first m oto, he blew up his bike during the Open Expert race, dampeni ng any sight of another victory in the Senior class. He undo u btedly wou ld have done it , too ! Bill Saltzma n , the desert ace. took advantage of the situation with a 2·1 finish. Next came Jim Connolly in second, looking just as lithe as he did 10 years ago . Nate Sciacqua was right on Connolly's ta il all the way, for a third. And for a guy who didn't think he had a chance, John Townsend put ..A nd then this Kam ikaze pilot came swooping down on me, so I made a run for it Walt Rich had a true dinosaur at the DOMC TT. in a pretty impressive fourth place ride. Jim Lowe pull ed a big lead in "the Open Experts. Ch ip Howell (ma king a comeback after a broken hand ) closed the gap. but not quite enough in the first moto . Then Craig Adams put the pressure on Howell until his shocks went south. Second rnoto, Lowe again jumped into the lead. Only this time Howell moved up right on his rear wheel. As the pair moved through lapped riders, it looked like Howell cou ld make his move. but was forced off the track momentarily by a slower rider. And as this was the last lap , there just wasn't time to catch Lowe. In th e 250cc Experts , Rodney Brand took a commanding first moto lead. Bu t second moto, his bike went sour and he DNF. Drew Nelson went on to take home the money with a 2-1 finish . Needless to say, th e district stars couldn't seem to get it together for this one , with Steve Ba rtley in second. followed by Marty Mille r. Dave Eropkin and Ste ve Davis. In th e Women's class , Expert Rhe Helms had first wrapped up until her carburetor acted up . Roxie Klatt , looking smoother and more in control than ever before, went on to take the overall . Joanna Amy . just a Novice , shocked the rest of the Experts and Amateurs as she easily took second overall. (Need less to say. she plans to ride Amateur next time!) Another fast Novice was Lisa Monahan. placing third overall. The women Amateurs were having their problems: Pauline Pitt loaded up her new Suzuki on the starting line first moto , but came back in the second moto for third overall to take first Am ateur ahead of Lyne tte Zuber.
