DATEUNE Dangerous Dan Lechtenberg (Yam) slashed ou t two holeshots in the 125cc Pro class, but couldn't hold the pack at bay long enough to extend his slim lead. Eldon Copier (Suz) and Kenny, Archibald (Suz) combined forces and chewed up Dan's lead, then hasseled each other until Jim East (Hon attacked , putting a fire on both thei pots . Copier cruised along with the .wrist scored to the max , whil Archibald assaulted with variou attempts to gain, and yet protect his own position from the bombardment of Lechtenberg. Copier cornered the checkers for a first, Archibald captured second and Jim East pulled a fast count to take third . Open Pro class mixed and stirred up a free -for- all , with holeshots and front positions open to anyone agile enough , to fend off the onslaught. The lead was passed and snuffled until the melee hot squashed by the flying checks. Mike O'Driscoll (Yam) sliced of the main piece and Lane Jensen (Yam) cut out second while Shane ~ Burrows (Yarn) nicked third. A fest double jump on the beck of Woodland's track gets a lot of action I Pat Jacobson discovers Woodland, and then some ByActionOz WOODLAND , WA, APR. 29 Pat Jacobson likes Woodland Winter track. Jacobson, riding for Bellevue Suzuki, was passing through on his way to ride at L 34 Washougal's opener when he discovered that Woodland ran on Saturday. He entered all three Pro classes and won . . . . all three! The first 125cc Pro moto was full of riders who have ridden this dirt many times. Jim Anderson (Suz) got the holeshot. Tim Michletsch , McMinnville Yamaha , slipped into second while Jacobson settled into third. By the fourth lap, Jacobson had made a pass on Michletseh to go int o second. Anderson was running hard to try . for a wider margin . Once by Michletseh, Jacobson wicked it and began the press. By lap five he made the pass at the sweeper just after the double jump and that was it for the first moto. Jacobson finished first , Michletsch second, Anderson third and McCormick fourth . Off the line of the second moto it was Michletsch in the lead, McCormick second, right on his rear knobby . Anderson ran third , but where'sJacobson? He's dead last on the first lap! By lap three, he moved into third. Jacobson cooked as he flew the double jump to set himself up for the next pass. Anderson was in his sights and by lap four he passed and began to close the distance on Michletseh. Tim started pouring it on , but wasn't as strong in the turns. On lap eight, Jacobson pulled the pass and was gone . Michletseh ran two hard laps to keep up, but then suffered a mechanical and picked up a DNF. Jacobson romped the win and overall in the class. Anderson took second for second overall and McCormick picked up third. It seems Woodland is shaping up as a perfect 250cc class track. By far the biggest turnout of the day , both Amateur and Pro, is the 250cc Pro class. All the area's top names were on the line. Skeet Hise got the holeshot , held it for a lap, then was passed by Jacobson. He repassed to hold first for three laps. Jacobson was too tough and by lap six got around Hise to lock the lead to the end. Skeet dropped to third when Michletsch got around him . Tom Poage pulled in fourth. Pat Jacobson flew off the line the second time and began a journey that was insurmountable. The only one seemingly with a chance was Tom Poage. On the downward side of the double jump, Michletseh's feet came off the pegs and the bike flew out of his hands and disappeared into the brush. Tim went like a bird, but without wings he was no match and fell to earth, landing in the loamy soil. He looked for the bike , but by now his pit crew found it and it was OK . Tim eased to a finish and eleventh in the second moto. Jacobson won by a large margin over Poage, who finished second. Skeet Hise was a consistent 5-5. So it was Jacobson again , number one. Tom Poage scored second overall. Hise ran third overall and McCormick was fourth. It was then time for the Open Pros . It was Pat Jacobson's day . He won it with a perfect 1·1 , three classes, six firsts . Skeet Hise gave him a close battle in the Open class to nail a 2·2 while Carl Cole hammered a 5-3. Results MINI JR: 1. Stove Bye CVam); 2. The stadium lights flickered on and reveiaed a wellprepared track with racers already posed on the line , then the racing exploded with frenzied action! Mini Experts drew the first crack at the track and Snell Johnson (Suz) warmed the terrain with the holeshot , The battle grew intense as Mark Gren (Yam ) and Brent Gray (Yam) attempted to wrest away the top spot. Johnson faded in a cloud of dust and it turned into an every man for himself struggle for second. The checks waved for Johnson in first and the fluttering cloth crazed Gren and Gray into a frenzied pace. The mad dash for the checks almost resulted in a fiasco, but Gray held on to his mount , withstanding Gren's attempt to climb aboard in a corner, a nd snatched the trophy for second. Gren controlled his wayward bike and wheelied across third. A triple trade for first I OOcc J unior between Neil Crosby (Suz) , Bob Thomas (Yam) and Rob DeMarco (Suz) increased tension and the battle raged. They were all roosted by steady Scott Prior (Yam), who had priority points with consistent finishes and he grabbed first. Crosby diced madly for second and DeMarco touched off the skirmish with third . Steve Taggart (Yam) blasted the line and streaked off as the 250cc Intermediates stormed across the gate. Unfortunately, the same intentions for the holeshot were shared by Kelly Smith (Hon) , and Taggart ended up on the endangered species list. The bar-to -bar . tangle forced Taggart to retreat and Smith managed to hold his place, in spite of attacking Reg Wilson (Mai) and his nifty comer cuts. The photo-finish almost had the checkered flagman I airborn when Smith and Wilson flashed in together, but Smith drew 'i the trophy for first . Taggart retained second with points and Wilson's effort was rewarded with third. A stunning show of power hypnotized Open Intermediates as . Wyn Forshee (Yam) lit his motor and rocketed away. The rest of the. pack went berzerk as Forshee strung out a fantastic lead. WFO Forshee spearheaded the trophy for first , Craig ' Kunkle (Mai) charged the line for second and Rich Gillett (Yam) slid in for third. Results OPEN JR: 1. Stan Smith (Vam); 2.
