ยท . RIPES TAKES ATLANTA SUPERCROSS. T The 'learn Honda Supercross snowball continued to grow in Atlant a on March 4, 1978as Marty 'Iripes took the overall win aboard his CR-250R production Elsinora'" With a second place already under his belt from the Supercross opener in Seattle (won by Honda's Jimmy Ellis), Marty went out and dazzled a crowd of 36,000 frozen spectators in near zero-degree weather. The track was sandy and rough, but Marty and his Honda were up to the task. His machine was a box-stock Honda CR-250R with only a shock absorber change to more closely suit Marty's riding style. Obviously the Honda suited 'IHpes well, for he predicted his victory in the pits, well before th e main event. 28 Joining Marty as winners for the night were his Honda teammates Jimmy Ellis, Warren Reid and Steve Wise, who finished 1-2-3 in the first qualifying moto, and Jim Pomeroy, who brought his Honda in for second, behind 'Iripes, in the second ten-lap qualifier. Jimmy Ellis also got the award for the longest jump of the night. It was a great night for 'learn Honda and the new CR-250R Elsinore.
