. RIPES TAKES ATLANTA SUPERCROSS.
T
The 'learn Honda Supercross snowball continued to
grow in Atlant a on March 4, 1978as Marty 'Iripes took the
overall win aboard his CR-250R production Elsinora'"
With a second place already under his belt from the
Supercross opener in Seattle (won by Honda's Jimmy Ellis),
Marty went out and dazzled a crowd of 36,000 frozen
spectators in near zero-degree weather.
The track was sandy and rough, but Marty and his
Honda were up to the task. His machine was a box-stock
Honda CR-250R with only a shock absorber change to more
closely suit Marty's riding style. Obviously the Honda suited
'IHpes well, for he predicted his victory in the pits, well
before th e main event.

Joining Marty as winners for the night were his Honda
teammates Jimmy Ellis, Warren Reid and Steve Wise, who
finished 1-2-3 in the first qualifying moto, and Jim Pomeroy,
who brought his Honda in for second, behind 'Iripes, in the second ten-lap qualifier. Jimmy Ellis also got the award for
the longest jump of the night.
