NOV . 27 Bobby Jones (Suz·CH Perf.) took home top money in th e American Motocross Enterprizes (AME) 125 Pro class . In the first moto, John O 'Mara pulled the holesh ot a nd led th e pack of over 30 riders around the first tu rn and out into the sa nd wash whe n the race was black flagged due to an injury in the first turn . The start was then changed to eli minate the turn around the tree and a re -sta rt was called. Once m ore O'Mara too k contro l with Gary Dircks from Phoenix ho ld in g down secon d . David T aylor (Suz. DG) was doing som e beautifu l m anueveri ng a nd too k over the lead with Jones on his tail and O 'Mara in thi rd . In fourth Dircks found Tom Locey coming up behind and had a hea vy battle holding him off until Locey slid by-. By the end of the moto, Taylor was still sol id in first , Jones was second and O'Mara third . The second time around . battling 45 mph winds, Taylor edged his wa y into th e lead with Jones in second , Nick Hale holding down third and O'Ma ra in fourth . Except for Taylor and Jones. the rest of the pack clumped together, probably in d efense of the dust storm that was challenging them . Taylor , after riding a fantastic first moto , found nothing but trouble as his bike broke, tu rning the lead over to Jones. W ith Jones way ou t in front. the real b attle was between Nick Hale and Locey for second. Hale st art ed to slow a bit and Paul Lane moved by. When the dust finally cle ared Jones was there for top money for the class. Locey ended up with a second overall and th ird went to Lane. Jim Holley (Yam · PK) made a clean sweep of the 100 Pro class in a final bid for points for the 1977 season with double points and 50% trophies available. Mark La wrence racked up a pair of wins for top money in th e 250 Pro ra ce and a sha re of th e $1 .000 purse. Doug Nicol grabbed the holeshot and led a huge field of pros a ro un d the firs t tu rn and into th e sa ndwas h . Lawren ce took com man d on t he back end of the track. T ra cy Oswell (KT lvl-Mid -Valley) moved into second and was closi ng ground rapidly. Mike Shoem aker ~as running third with Do n Hansen fourth and Ken Zah rt (Bul ) in fifth . H ansen passed Sh oema ker a nd was 'push ing Oswell hard , but Zahrt took over second by the end of the moto with Lawrence still leading a nd Hansen hol d ing d own thi rd . The seco n d ti me off the line . Lawrence p lunged off th e line and into a heavy dust storm. Groping a long behind were Dave Williams ( M ai- Wh eelsmith ) and Hansen . Lawrence was still leading as Hansen made his wa y into second putting W illiams in third . A battle for fourth developed among Oswell . Atwood a nd Zahrt th at continued to the end. When the leaders emerged , shrouded in dust , Lawrence came through to top mo ney for the class . Hansen fo llowed for second overall and Zahrt took third . The 500 Pro race won by Da vid W illiams was a steady battle among W illiams, Steve Rawson. Hal Strauss an d Mark White. Strauss took home secon d pl a ce mo ney and thi rd went to White.
