Eropkin starS in CRCDeAnza MXwars By Ron Lawson SUNNYMEAD, CA, SEPT. 18 Dave Eropkin (DC-Yam) was the star of eRe's 250 Pro class. At the start of moto one, a full field of determined pros flooded into the first tum with Keith Patten on top. Eropkin was buried back. in eighth place while Patten took clear command. Second place was juggled back and forth between riders in the opening laps, but it finally settled down in the possession of Suzuki mounted Danny Jean . Eropkin was on the gas and , by lap four , up to third place. Together, Jean and Eropkin whittled down Patten's lead unti it was a three-way battle. On lap seven, Jean slipped into the lead. Patten was riding slightly off pace because of an old knee injury, and two laps later, Eropkin also passed him . As they came around for the white flag, Jean led the top three in close formation . By the end of the moto , Patten's knee was causing him so much pain, he decided not to run the last race. Moto two saw Mark Page (Yam) lead briefly. Eropkin got a much better stan than last time and he was leading by the second lap. Behind him , Page, Jean and Greg Stone (Yam) were locked in combat for second place. For the first eight laps it was anybody's ,ga m e . Jean finally captured the position , but Eropkin was long gone. It was an easy win for the DG rider and he cruised in with a large lead over Jean, Stone and Mick Jacobs (Suz). Overall standings went Eropkin, Jean , Stone, Jacobs and rounding out the top five was Dave Ohl (Suz) . The Open Pros had a tight battle between Kenny , Taylor (Yam) and Mark Ellis (Yam). Taylor got the better start in the first round, but it .wasn't long before Ellis was up there with him . On lap three, Ellis passed Taylor, but couldn't pull any distance. After four laps of elbow-to-elbow riding, Taylor managed to re -take the lead. Ellis was beginning to fade and he never re -challanged the leader in the remaining laps . Kenneth Yarnall (Yam) was third . In the second bout, Doug McGowen , who had problems with his big Montesa in the first moto, was up there with the leaders. For two laps he ALABAMA : Pillsbury .
