Irwindale MX: quite a night for IICrazy" Clanton ByTom Corley IRWINDALE, CA . SEPT. 9 There are only two more months of action to be held on the Irwindale motocross track befo re the season break. At this time there is no official word as to when the next CMC Night Nationals will take place. According to CMC head Stu Peters , the show date if any will be entirel y up to the International Raceway and Parks head Bill Donor. One race that was especially good this evening was the special "King of th e Hill " race. In this event there are two 125, 250 and 500 Pros selected from the past week of racing. The riders are handicapped according to their bike displacement and a hand in air start is used. The contestants charge about th e track backwards for two laps to determine the winner and a cash award is given to first and second places. Race Factory addict Terry 'Cra zy' Clanton of Whittier is really a consistent rider here at Irwindale and is always a thrill to watch crash n ' bum in the 125 Pro class , In this special event , though he really turned a few heads on his Rocky-tuned Suzuki. Clanton flew off the start and was first over the Wheelsmith jump and first to the next sandy sweeper. Usually the big machines just literally eat up the small bikes when they reach the long fast straight. However Clanton's Suzuki held its own on this area for the first lap , but then hard-charging Bob Marino on a 400 Yamaha approached quickly. Marino passed over Clanton on the very next lap a fter the long straight and reigned as the "King of the Hill" winner , Clanton held off the rest of the pack and too k second , However in the third mota of the 125 Pro race, Clanton hit hard after flying over the Wheelsmith jump and ended up stopping action for awhile . Terry fractured a few ribs but is up and walking around. Quite a night for Terry 'Crazy' Clanton! Results in Results Section.
