Eropkin took the top spot for himself. In the remainder of th e 16lap ra ce . Doug Heil ( Ma i) al so displaced th e tiring Stone. In round two . McDougal brought himself back into the picture by grabbing the holesh ot. His lead was short -lived , though . as the Suzuki fai led again by the fourth lap . After that , it was Eropkin and Heil going for it for the rest of th e race. Eropkin ca me out on top with Heil taking second place mon ey. Bill Cook (Suz ) took th ird. Th e beginners are always the biggest , a nd somet imes th e best. races at DeAnza . Gary Merrill (Suz) sco red his first ever win in the 250 cla ss. H is co nsistent finishings placed him above Andy Sandoval (Ho n) and Ed Regalia (CZ)• . who both won rnotos. In th e 125's it was Danny Rivas (Yam) who took top honors aw ay from ' David Stewart. St ewart won the first moto , but bad lu ck in th e next two put him in fourth behind Alan Seel ey (Su z) and T ed Grady (Hon). • Results in Results Section . Bauer fops Miller afCoronaMX By Elaine Jones CORONA, CA. JUNE 10 Steve Bauer set his sights on the 125 Pro cl ass - knowing he would have to beat the reigning king, Marty Miller. It was a see saw battle all the way in the first moto as Bauer got th e jump off the line and the first time across the finish line it was Bauer. Miller and Marty Wolford. Miller quickly dropped Bauer to second as they went through the hills. . Doug Lincoln took Wolford on th e secon d lap to take over th e third position. On the fourth lap Bauer put th e mov e on Miller to take over first and the white flag was out. As they took to the hills , Miller was trying to get by but Bauer wasn 't having any. It was Bauer home free and halfway to collecting the win . Miller got o ut in front in the second mota with Bauer and Lincoln right behind him . They maintain ed positions until the white flag cam e out - for Bauer it was like waving a red fla g in front of a bull. When they ca me down the hill into t he infield Bauer was in front and home for th e checkered. Miller was second overall with Lincoln third. Miller was not about to take a back sea t to anyone in the 250 Pro , leading bo th motos wire to wire. Greg Barrett and Mark Da y were content to foll ow him home in both. Goat Breker didn't have an easy time of it in the 500 Pros as Paul Schones got -int o the act and argued the point with him . The first mota was Breker's all the way with Schones second and Kelly Callaway third. The second mota saw Schones out on top with Breker second and teammate Keith Fearing third. Carl Gieselman passed Fearing on lap two to take over second: Fearing returned the favor on the next lap and Callaway followed suit. Schones was able to hold Breker for three laps when a mistake cost him fo ur places as Breker, Fearing. Gieselman, and Callaway were all able to get by . It was Breker's race the rest of the way with Fearing and Gieselman in the place, show pos itions . The second overall still went to Schones who was one point ahead of hari.. • Results in Results Section.
