Wood s did work his way int o th e Handicap Main event , but with th e added ya rdage he fin ished last. The win went to Fred Heldoorn . his second Handicap Main event win at Ventura . Schwanz held off a host of hardch a rgi ng back marker r iders to take t h e top h on o rs in t he five -lap Handicap Ma in event. T here were five 50-ya rd- line r id e rs entere d in the m a in . but only four co uld start there . Schwa n z won the coi n flip and was moved to the 40-yard m arker. He got into t he firs t corner wit h the lea d and took th e win over Christian a nd Mike Bast. C hristian 's victory ca me in the Scra tch feature , where he took the early lead and rode to the ch eckered fla g despit e late a ce ch a lle nges b y Schwan . Kell y Mo r a n , the' l fi-year-old former Junior Speed way com petito r , easily claimed his second consecutive Irwind a le R a ce wa y five-lap ma in event. In the special two-lap m at ch ra ce. T wice th is year, Alan Christian ha s won both the Scratch a nd Handicap Main events in the same nig ht. He won the Ha ndicap Main last week at Costa Mesa. reaped the same glory th is week and, to rou nd out a perfect night, won the Scratch Main event besides.
