The ideal is 30 .seconds , so th e good dentist was only nin e seconds off; Hendrix and Troutt were 10 seco nds from th e first overall trophy. The SS-mil e course laid out by the Richmond Ramblers was an excellent combination of dust , damp for est trails and one outrageous cylinderhead-deep mud hole. IThe club used some trails tha t hadn't been see n sin ce the Fool's Gold IV End uro. The co m bination of fir e road and pa ths gave everyone a chance to ca tc h up and t here were m a n y favo rable co m ments from (he C riders who have been ge tting the short end of the stic k since last fa ll. Bria n Peters (H us) was very pleased to finish with a sco re of 30 a nd th at hard cha rge r fr om th e Sawmill , Bruce Marhenke (Yam) may have tak en a fourth in th e 250 C cla ss. Ther e were a lot of good scores for th e Experts and a lot of Beginners wh o fin ished th e ru n ; t h e R ichmond Ramblers co uld have pleased more riders but wer e limited to 400 riders by th e Forest Service . The night befor e th e event th ey began to tak e a waiting list of people who wanted to rid e but who couldn't find som eone to buy an entry from . There was onl y on e little problem on the high ly esoteri c time /speed /distance sid e of the enduro. The club used a 13,33 mph speed average in the first half of th e course so that fourth che ck (the gas stop) may have to be thrown out. According to the rulebook that kind of speed average is not supposed to be
