At th e start th e riders wer e lined up 100 feet in fron t of th e bikes. At the starter's nag th e 50 rid ers ran ac ross th e field worrying that they m ight stu m ble in th e chuckho les or on the two scru b trees in th eir path and be run ove r. His 6·1 was second to Mike Tarter's 3-3 rides in the wild 250 motos. That class had 30 riders.
