CAL., NOV. 21 Tom Brooks (400 KTM) won the last of the three " Balentine Bounty Series" races, beating his brother Cordis and denying anyone the two-race majority necessary to win the $500. Tom won the race by 90 seconds over Cordis, while Bob Ba lentine crashed and dropped out. Ba lent ine will still get t he ha lf of the mon ey offered by his sponsor, KTM . Morgan Ma locco (400 Yam) led the start of the race . About five mi les out, Tom Brooks passed him and took over the lead for. good . Cordis (250 Bul) soon assumed second, with Balent ine (400 KTM) in third. Ba lent ine's bike wasn 't running properly a nd in his attempt to get by Co rdis , he overdid it, hitting a ro ck . Though he got u rapidly , his shoulder was hurting an he dropped out , unab le to mai ntai the leader's pa ce. The leaders were sett ing quite e pace , with the Brooks brothers wa i front of the next riders . a tightly-kni group consisting of Tom Kelly 25 KTM ), Tim Bowman (400 CZ) an Malocco. His pit crew wasil·t expecting- him to stop; more time wa lost. ~ Tom Brooks continued his speedy pace. fin ishing the two 30·mile loop in one hour, seven minutes on his Compet ition Services Cycle-p repped 400. Cordis was in 90 seco nds latlir , t he same deficit he'd faced before the gas snafu . Bowman got by Kelly about 10 miles out on the second loop and he held his third -place to the finish .
