Kevin Hasten (400 (CZ) continued h is co m back; a lt ho ugh he got stuc k in the d ust for half the race, he moved up four places in th e last 30 miles, I Brad Henson ( 175 Yam ) continued _ n in g in the small-bore class, ",in . getting by two competitors early in the race and finis hing eighth overall . Mike .'Joh nston , still getting adjusted to his .new 400 KT M , fi nished n int h . Rou nding out the top ten was Amateur winner Mike Co le (250 Hus). At 14th overall, Monte Lee (250 Ya m) , showed co urage mixed with a healthy dose of insanity, fi nishing third 250 Ex pert after going the whole way with a broken colla r bo ne. Tim Nething (250 H us) made it two in a row when he won the Novice race. ,Ge tting by fell ow Sodbuster J e rry Leath, he built up a big lead. He relaxed a little and nearly got ca ught by Rod Roder ick (250 Yam ), wh o fin ish ed second. At fifth , Tom Maddocks (400 Yam)I was first Open , • • . L eslie Klug (250 H o n ) had a tremendous lead over the other girls (as usu a l) when she came upon an injured rider laying on the trail. Sh e flagged riders awa y unt il th e man was coherent , hel ped him off the trai l, got ano the r ri de r to watch over h im , finished the race a nd still won . Lori Fa rmer (175 C oAl won the Novice class , just ahead of Jolene Pa yn e (Yam), Jolene and Lesli e will probably go down to the last ra ce in the contest for the N umber One plate. _ T im Sloan (400 KT M) , a previous class wi n ne r , won overa ll in the Beginner class . Beh ind him as last week's Beginner winner, Mike Sa pa no (175 Yam) who got to rid e another Beginner ra ce wh en points weren 't posted because of the extra work invo lved in the previous , timed, ra ce . Mike Frank finished th ird , firs t '250 on his Su zuk i. T he Mini class on ly went 30 mi les, but it was a 30 -mil e battle between Alan Dryden (H on) and Kell y Klin e (Yam ) with Dryden winning. Rider com ments about the co urse indicated it was rougher than most , but ge nerally well-received.
