NOV 5 Six sch oo ls from as fa r a wa y as Apple Valley tu rned o ut Friday night and it was Arlingto n High Sc h oo l that totally dominated tlie proceedings winning all but three classes and not placing in only one. It was small school night with Arlington , Apple Valley. Chino. Colton , Norte Vista and Bloomington fielding teams. I Richard Apodaca of Arlington led me charge in the 125cc Intermediate Class against Colton's Doug Lincoln and Steve Peck. Richard n e ve r faitered until the final mota when Doug got by him to pick up the first. Richard had more than enough for the win with Doug second and Steve third . Paul Ballow of Arlington had an up and down evening in the 125cc Senior Class starting out with third against teammates Marty Wolford's first and . Bloo m ingt on's Mark Guteb ier's third. Paul came back to take th e second mota with Marty getting a DNF and Ma rk the second. Marty turned it .aroun d in the third mota to come up with another first but it wasn't enoug to )finish better than third overa ll to Pa u l and Mark . Randy Anderson picked up th e fin al Arlington win as he parlayed his second into two firsts a nd beat ou t Arlis Kellogg of Norte Vista by on e poin t. Rex Murdock of Apple Valley picked up th e third a nd was th e only Apple Vall ey rider to place in t he top three . • Mason Bucks AME NightMX VA LENC IA. Pa u l La ne , who had :& m e in eighth in his first moto , ca me ba ck in full force to take on his old cronie David Lynch . David had a fourth in his first and was riding all ou t for first. These two wer e running second a nd third and di cing it out throughou t their second mota . Peter Sabat ha d a seco nd in his first a nd wasn 't about to let these two go un chall en ged. He had been running th ir d a nd got by Lane on th e white fla g la p to tak e a nea t first ove r-a ll. CAL. , NOV 5 The big bikes proved to hold all the excitem e nt Friday night on the Corona MX and there were more than a few surprises. Little Fred Conover who does some of his best work on a flat track borrowed Dad 's Kawasaki KX 400cc and proceeded to blow the competition away in the Open J r. . Fred who's Dad owns C .H . Moto rcycles in Riverside was first off the line every tim e and j ust conti nued to p ull away and a ll Ro b Ridge and Lynn Taylor co uld do was try and keep him in sight. Mark Rawley had his name firmly ' planted on firs t place in the O pen Int erm edia te and Brian Tolson ' of . Buddha Bultaco was ready to pack it in and go home because he was so sleepy he said he couldn 't sta y awake on the course. it's a good thing he stuc k around because in the th ird . mota he got off first and though he looked back several tim es he couldn't figure out where Mark had gone. Mark was back in th e pack. It seems his sh ift lever had fa llen off and it tended to slow him down considerably. Mark ended up with a fifth and th e second overall . J im Gordon was third . AI Dennlew (Mai) worked himself up from a third in th e first mota , to secon d in the secon d . and to a win in th e last to notch h imself th e overall. Marv in Ol son ( M a i) sc o r e d th e ope n ing mota win . but fini shed in th e o pen i ng an d cl osing motos 3 -2 res pectively for second. Nov ice Old Timer Kid Coffman (Yam) scored with th e most regularity (no pun int ended) with a 1-2·1 to effectively win h is class . Don Edlund (Ya m) scored th e other win along with a 3·2 for second. Everette Hatler (Cl) came in third . Action in the other classes was mixed . with th e fact tha t hardly anybody was riding consistantly to sco re an effective overall win exce p t just hang on and hope that everbody else falls into the slim e . Dave Potts (Ma i), the only Open Expert , led the com bi ne d 250/0pen In term ed ia te Expert class with a good lead . but only to ha ve his b ike suck u p some of the la ndsca pe , which retired him for the day. Gary Kn eiper (Oss ) came from beh ind to blitz th e 250 Experts. with Steve Potts (KT M) seco nd , a nd Ga ry Bartlett (Mai) third .
