RED MO UNT AI N, CAL. , SEPT. 19
Husky mounted T om Spurlock

fantast ic t h ree point ride in UEA's
Se cond Annual Tuff E'Nuff Enduro.
Spurl oc k did it th e h ard way , burning a
ch ec k on th e first loop wh ich was
geared towards the C enduro riders,
drop p in g t wo points in one fell swoop .
"I thought that put m e out of it," he
said, "bu t I pushed on h oping to at least
salvage a
top
ten fini sh. " The
cha llen ging second loo p led to th e
downfall of the rest of th e competition
whil e Sp url ock dropped a solita ry point '
at check G, arr iving a scant eigh t

gave Tom his closest chal lenge , dropping
four points. Mark rode wi th Honda's

class poin ts lead with a fourth overall,
first ligh tweigh t, Jay dropped five
poin ts to dominate his class and KTM
mounted Dave Matus p icked up sec o nd

Matus was a B rid er until this enduro ,
but he opted to enter as a n A, therefore
au tomatically transferring to A status
according to AMA rules.
UEA started the rider s off by skill
level. A ri ders took number 1·29, B
riders 30·74 and C's brought u p the
rear. Some A riders elected to ride back
with their B buddies , and a few later
regretted the move. Passin g slo wer riders
turned out to be a real problem at times
on the challenging course.
